Incorrect error message when trying to respond to question while logged in to different account

Symptom:  Incorrect/Misleading Error message "The question you are trying to answer is either invalid or older than 90 days. You cannot respond to questions older than 90 days."

 

Background: I have 2 ebay accounts (1 Business, 1 Personal).

 

Reproducible:

1.) On Windows PC, browser is logged into eBay PERSONAL account. 

2.) Received email message from eBay with buyer question relating to a product being sold in the BUSINESS account.  Email had "Reply To Question" button. 

3.) Click on Reply button in email, which opened browser displaying the above error message

 

Correct handling: Either prompt login to the correct account, or have error message indicate that the item for which I'm trying to answer does not belong to the account that I'm currently logged in to.

When I'm logged into the personal account (using web browser on PC) and I get an email with a buyer-question relating to an item on my business account

You have to be logged in to the account the message is connected with.

Yep, it's been this way for years @memotronics_llc . And while I do fully agree with your comments, I think there are other matters on eBay that need to be fixed/improved that are more important for the limited resources available.

 

That said, on the top right of the messages page there's a "tell us what you think" link - click on that and you can submit feedback that will go directly to the developers. That's the best way to get this feedback escalated to the right team.

Since you used a different account to attempt to answer a question, you received the correct error message.

Correct handling: Answer the question using the correct account....problem solved!

it's a "generic" reply to cover different reasons for getting the message.

 

sometimes eBay cannot even give a response that is applicable.

 

Choose the fact that the question is "invalid" (as it is from an account that you are not logged into) , and move along.

Yeah, that's how I've always looked at it. The question is "invalid" to the account a person is logged in to.
