HAWAII - Local search is USELESS ! - FIX YOUR WEBSITE eBAY !

Dear eBay, Hope one of your tech peeps reads this. Since you FAIL to have a legitimate "contact us" option on the website to report problems with your website.

I am here in HAWAII, 96817.

I want to search for ANYTHING available for sale in Hawaii.

Go to advanced search, put in zip code and change to 50 miles. hit Submit

The search results return nothing.  --- NOTHING --

It send me to a "pretty" page with piles of categories to select from, no quantity counts of what might be available in sub categories. click on anything and you quickly realize that it is a full global search, NO results for just hawaii.

Try something else.

searched for "ip POE cameras"

get global results

change the zip code to "50 miles from zip code"

and then the research results give me all of these listings in China.

HELLO... Hawaii is NOT 50 miles from CHINA !

Doesnt Matter. change the search criteria to 25 miles and it still showed me 8,252 results from China.

I want to be able to Click on an option where it shows me HAWAII ONLY items for sale. Instead i have to waste time constantly searching for something, and then discover they do not ship to Hawaii.

This was a problem 10 years ago, i can not believe it is STILL a problem !

I don't know how to fix your problem, but I have never understood why sellers exclude Hawaii.  It is the same price as shipping to California.  I am in Ohio and when I search for closest, China sellers are at the top too.

I quickly modified an open existing search tab in Firefox 3.6.24 for "Ansel Adams"  with a  "within 100 miles of 96802" filter, and got 4 results.

There are 1910 results for "US Only", and 147 results for "within 100 mi of 95825 (Sacramento, CA)"

Doesn't appear to be broken to me.

Could be a browser specific issue, something account specific (unlikely), or maybe it's how/where you start your searches.

But it is an issue for Hawaii.

There are other posters that have the same issue.

This exact same problem was shown on here about a year ago. They seem to have fixed it for a while then broke it again.

Instead of trying your search for Sacramento, try a new hawaii search.

dont modify an existing search.  It may not work for you anyway unless you change your profile zip code too.  I asked this same question 4 years ago. It stated working, then stopped working again.

You would think that eBay woudl fix this considering their boss live here about 5 miles away.

Same default search issues here in Alaska.  This all started during the mid-June update.  Definitely an area related (zip code) problem.  If I 'see other items' in my store, I find 280 of my 10,000 listings.  If I do an advanced search in eBay, change the zip code to one in California, and then go back to view my items for sale I will then see all 10,000 items.  This works until I relog and I am identifed as being from Alaska again.  I have sent screen shots showing the problem to a support rep to pass along to the tech team.  We have been trying to get this resolved since early July.  Haven't heard when we can expect to see a fix.

I'm in Alaska also and have been having a terrible time checking on my auction listings in "search" you have given me the clearest picture of what is happening and why others can see my auctions and I can't... Now to go in and change my zip code and look.. Thanks

You are welcome marymac52.  Credit really goes to hawaiianhope for pointing out the zip code thing that sent me in that direction.  So thank you hawaiianhope.  I just searched for your items marymac52.  Found zero listings.  Changed my zip to 11234 and searched again.  I then found 7 listings for you.  I fired off another batch of screen shots to the ebay support rep working on the problem.   And I'm directing the ebay rep to this thread.  I've been trying to get someone to fix this since July.  If there is anyone out there reading this that can expedite a resolution, your assistance would be much appreciated.

Boy I tried changing the search zip to 85251 zip and still couldn't locate any of my auctions, went through a few categories just seeing how they work or get listed anymore and it was quite eye opening... I checked on what listings apparently get the spot light... mainly stores, not many small sellers. If you are look tag "auction only" you get a smaller number but these are also the little guys selling here. I did try finding mine within this list of "ending first" option and still didn't see them... I'm almost ready to pull my auctions as they're not getting seen in search and can go for its list price. Its good to know.... so now when I list my items I'll always put the starting cost at what I can settle for...
Anyway lets hope it gets fixed, I wish that there was a box to check that would give buyers just non-store sellers to look at. I found the box for just USA and enjoy checking that one for my search!
