Gift Cards not saving

this isn’t really a issue as much as it is an idea that should be implemented. I was trying to buy something last week with a gift card that i had just bought i put $96 on a gift card and when i went to buy the item it had just sold out. so whatever it happens but then today when i go to buy something it didn’t save my gift card sense non of it was used i guess. now i’m out 96 bucks because i don’t have the gift card anymore. i think that the cards should save even if you don’t use any of the money on it because of obvious reasons

If you're refunded where did you expect the refund to go? It's  all over eBay and on an internet search of eBay refunds that the refund goes back to the source. 

I've heard people look for discarded lottery tickets and gift cards hoping to find one that pays off.

i mean if you are refunded and you used a gift card i imagine it would go back to the gift card on you know your account. but im not talking about a refund at all i went to purchase something that became sold out after i had entered in my gift card. im saying that ebay should save your gift card on your account once you enter it. clearly it doesn’t right now because my money is gone.

Why don't you have your gift card any more?

Until you actually complete a purchase, any credit on the card remains on the card.

i know that now, what i’m saying is that ebay should save your card on the account regardless if any money is take out of the card or not because who in their right mind is out here putting a giftcard on their account and when no money is taken off then they are like oh well i’ll save this for later it’s dumb

Same thing happened to me. in the past it has saved. This time it didnt so now i lost a $50

Take a look at your checkout page. At some point, eBay began linking gift cards to an eBay account after the first use, and any remaining balance should appear on your checkout page with a box to check to apply the amount to a future purchase.

I was aware of that, which is why I felt comfortable discarding the actual card once I had entered my card number in the system. Now, the card number is not there . Perhaps there was a glitch somehow?

You should not need the card number as long as the card was used once successfully with your eBay account to complete a purchase. After that point, unless things have changed you should just need to check a box to apply the remaining balance to your purchase.

If you have more than one eBay account, be sure to check each account.
