Amazon has many advantages - quick shipment, good customer support, easy returns, etc.
One of the main reasons why i still coming to eBay - awful, i'll dare to say idiotic search on amazon - thousands of items which has not even slight relation to search words, non working sort, lack of parameters to narrow search, etc.
Ebay's search was good for long time, till couple years ago (i slow :)) was added ability for seller to list multiple items in same offer. I think people abusing this feature on purpose. If i search for motherboard and sort output "low to high" i don't want to see on first place listing just because seller also included eraser for $1, nor i want see many results where item existed in past but now out of stock - i'm very happy that this person\shop selling something, but i came here for different reasons.. I feel frustrated wasting time by opening listing, search combo box content just to find needed item either not exists or has double price.
In my opinion, easiest way to fix it - unwrap multi-item listing down to single items either forcibly or providing this option in preferences - it won't affect interests of good sellers, it's not require changes in existing procedures and rules, and it can be done programmatically.
I'm not trying teach ebay how to make business, maybe there some profit behind of this, but i believe in growing concurrency it's important to not encourage customers to use alternate sites.
