Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Same here and others are reporting it also.

See the Post titled "Technical Issues" from baloos-treasures and my reply (with screenshot), which were posted earlier today.

I've never seen so many Technical Issues with eBay all at once.  Customer Service is sliding down the same hill in the "avalanche" (from my experience and numerous calls).

My main page will not load today or yesterday. See other post in discussions under technical discussions. There is a bug in the programming?

I got a "error has occurred and the program has to be closed" message. I kept reloading on a new tab a couple of time, then I got a "Windows pop up scam" or "Scare-ware" pop up message commonly used by Indian tech scammers. If I load the main ebay page logged out, there's no problem. But if I log in and go to the main page, the same error has occurred message. I've cleared my browsing history and done a full system scan of my PC. But every time I log in I get the same message. Not sure what's going on.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Me too.  This just started yesterday.  Yesterday morning, all was good.  By evening, every time I get to eBay home page (www.ebay.com), I get "Internet Explorer has stopped working".  This error message is in an endless loop.

EBay, did you just make some software changes????  I am not the only one having this problem.  I posted to a Microsoft forum & there are at least 4 or 5 others with the exact same problem, just since about 3-7-2019.

Have tried everything but nothing solves problem.

Work-arounds include:

- browse "in-private" mode (but this requires you to log-in to eBay each time (ugh, what a pain!)

- use a different browser & get past eBay home page -- say, to "My eBay".  Then, copy that URL & add to your favorites bar; use that each time & thus bypass eBay home page & avoid error

eBay, this is something you need to fix if you want us to keep our sales up.  Has to be easy to get to your site, not a royal PITA (pain in the a**).

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Google Chrome is working OK.  But IE is a big problem:  The only way to access ebay is to go directly to a page within ebay, not the homepage.  I've been going into my browser history and selecting anything I've looked at on ebay, as long as it's not the homepage it works OK.  I only have to do this in IE (which really shouldn't be used anymore anyway)

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Yup, works fine in Firefox.  Only problem is IE11.

Does anyone in the eBay Community know how to report software problems to eBay Tech Support?

Thx,

Susan

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

I am having the same problem. Ebay really needs to fix this. If buyers cannot get to the home page they will go elsewhere to shop. The website seems really slow also even if you are able to get in using another page on the site like myebay.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

For all those posting here, please also see posts (including mine) for the Subject Line;

eBay Home Page keeps getting an error message. Not happening on any other websites.

This is yet another reason that Customers lose faith in eBay, as this started a few days ago and is currently more of a problem than it was the first couple of days

I reported this during a call I had with eBay Concierge a couple of days ago.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Same here - using IE 11 (v. 11.0.96.19236) on Windows 7.  The eBay main page crashes immediately while trying to load.  Am writing this complaint using Chrome (which does seem to work), but that is no excuse for not fixing the problem.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Contact eBay Customer Support and ask to speak to a Manager to escalate this.  You should also direct them to Community Boards posts here (numerous threads "on topic" in the past few days).  Continue to call and complain if the problem isn't fixed.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

Addl. addendum to original post.  Have second computer running IE 10 (v. 10.0.9200.17609) in which eBay home page does not crash when loading, so problem seems to be specific to IE 11.

Re: Ebay main page showing start up errors

FYI all:  I also posted on Microsoft's Tech Support User Forum (not sure the exact name) & multiple folks over there report this problem as well.

Several work-arounds have surfaced:

- use a different browser permanently (Firefox & Chrome work without problems)

- use a different brower to get past the home page (www.ebay.com), bookmark the url of wherever you prefer that is "past" the home page, & then just use the bookmark to land (ie never go to home page)

- comnpatibility view (screws up the formatting of the main page but no error)

- use "In-Private" browsing every time (you will also have to log-in every time)

A few folks on the Microsoft forum have called eBay to report the problem & no surprise, no one at eBay is aware of the problem.  That is actually not surprising because eBay's first line customer support would probably be the last to know -- just a bunch of folks in a big call center somewhere overseas.

There are also multiple threads here in eBay Community (under different discussion groups/topics) about this problem from the past few days.

That's it for now.
