EBAY ANNOUNCES THEY NO LONGER SUPPORT INTERNET EXPLORER, PLEASE USE CHROME OR FIREFOX

Well, I'm making the announcement for them. Why? Because it's ridiculous to have this go on for a month now with absolutely nothing from Ebay.    It's pretty obvious that Ebay decided it's not worth the trouble and expense to fix the IE issue with Ebays homepage or they would have fixed it by now - or at least made some sort of announcement.

But here's what is happening with the IE users. According to stats I found on the web, under 10 percent of users use IE11.  And most likely they're older users using older computers running Windows 8 or 7.  My guess is most of these users have no technical knowledge or even know what a "Browser" is.    First they think it's their computer - so they'll spend hours and hours trying to "fix" it basically trying over and over.   After so much frustration, they'll give up and never try again - "it doesn't work anymore".  Good luck getting these users to come back again.

Also, Ebay is trying so hard to compete with Amazon and retain customer sales.  But with this IE browser issue, they are effectually losing potentially up to 10 percent of their buying customers, our buying customers?  **bleep**?

Here's a very simple solution for Ebay.  Just add a simple page to come up when a user is detected using IE11, displaying :

"We're sorry, but Internet Explorer is no longer supported.  Please use a more current browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox" to access Ebay"

Problem solved, no more frustration for for approx 10 percent of the ebay users, they'll be able to access Ebay again - and Ebay won't lose sales from some good 'ol customers!

Ebay, what are you waiting for????

I use Internet Explorer exclusively and have had zero problems with eBay and IE. Not having the same experience you are having. I'm on a 2004 MacAir and I am not a senior or a computer numpty either, might want to leave that part out of your frustration 🙂

Has eBay actually said that they no longer support IE? It has worked fine for me, I wonder what the issue is for others?

Hope it gets fixed for you, whatever is going on.

Lovefindingtreasures1, I understand why you wrote what you wrote in your reply.  It appears the Mac IE11 is not having this issue.  So I'll clarify, this POST is related to Windows computers.  But it appears you are not fully aware of this problem.

First of all, I work in the computer industry so I'll explain why I said what I said.  Microsoft replaced Internet Explorer 11 with Microsoft Edge in all current Windows 10 computers. Edge is their focus and have actually stated they no longer think it's safe to use IE11 any longer - it's barely supported at this point and won't be supported at all much longer.    Internet Explorer is still found on older computers running Win7 and Win8.   I work with a lot of home users and most of the people I deal with who are still using IE11 are older people (no offense to anyone). Most younger people are using Chrome.

This problem has been plaguing Ebay's home page for about a month now (it's all over the forums). If a person running IE11 attempts to access www.ebay.com - they're greeted with a error message "Internet Explorer Stopped Working" then it retries a few times and stops - there is no way to access www.ebay.com homepage using IE11 on Windows computers.

Just to be clear, Ebay never anounced anything - I'm being facetious.  But maybe it's time the do make the announcement.  I't's pretty obvious at this point.  IE 11 is being retired, Microsoft recommends to no longer use it,  and there is an added expense for Ebay to fix the problem.  So that would explain why it hasn't been fixed in about a months time and it would make sense it's not going to be fixed!

I have win 10 and use edge with no problems. I also have IE 11 and it has no issues. However IE 11 is running off of edge so if edge is fine there would be no issues. The main issue is probably they are using older computers with older os's not supported by Microsoft. These os's are either not getting updates written for them period or only a few times a year. These updates are probably needed for changes to HTML  and other security fixes needed to browse the web and make purchases.  While 3rd party browsers like firefox and chrome may get them back on they are still at risk for being hacked, identity theft, and a whole slew of malware and virus attacks. While there may not seam to be anything wrong with their older computers it is probably time to get something new. OTher than faster processor speeds and more ram there is the added protection from a newer os with current updates already installed and not added on to a existing os shell.  If you remember back to a few years ago after xp was dropped from support and updates massive hacks went through compromising the owners of those out dated machines that refused to move on. After XP came vista, 7 and 8 and soon their time will come when using those pc's will be totally at the users own risk and failure to move on will just be putting your personal information and bank account information at risk. While every user should be able to access the site as they want and pay the way they want and no sale loss should be acceptable by ebay it is clear were their priorities are. Users on these older os's and browsers will get the least priority. However this should not be the main reason for purchasing something newer. As I stated you will get the added benefit of a faster better protected computer to avoid issues like this for a long time.

All of a sudden I couldn't get IE 11 on my Windows 7 64 bit to stay open and work when I typed in Ebay.com. IE said there was a problem and closed............ I FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION. Open Internet Explorer. Click on TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > SECURITY> CUSTOM LEVEL> then scroll down until you see "SCRIPTING". Then look for the heading ACTIVE SCRIPTING..... change it FROM ENABLE TO "DISABLE", then be sure to click OK AND THEN APPLY AND OK .........then CLOSE. That takes care of the INTERNET EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING.............

Try Opera for a browser. The interface is similar to Internet Explorer and it comes with free VPN.  It also works fine with eBay. No issues connecting at all!

We are neither "old" or "seniors" and have kept Windows 7 with Explorer 11 with nil, none, zip problems with eBay. Can log in, search, add/remove things from summary, create listings, etc... In short everything could do before; so guess it is just you having issues.

That being said yes, plenty of websites are either refusing to operate with "outdated browsers" which they consider Windows 11 to be; others just give an annoying message saying "you are using an outdated browser/one we longer support; please consider upgrading to Chrome, Edge, etc...."

Personally do not like Windows 10 and see no need atm to upgrade. Without it cannot get Windows Edge but until am forced by circumstances to make that move, won't bother.

Last time added Google Chrome it took over my computer adding all sorts of things I didn't want, and or changing settings. Got fed up, uninstalled and reset my computer back to before it was installed to get rid of the mess.
