Sorry, I don't understand the point of your post.
To delete a message you simply click delete. What navigation links ?

Oh yeah, 

I meant deleting this post, which I apparently can't do. Thus writing "deleted message". 

I had problems restricting a search to a particular subcategory

(it searched all even if I navigated to the category on the left)

but I realized they changed some link  so I figured it out re-navigating there properly

You can ask the mods to close the post but I don't know if they will delete it. 
To close the post click the "V" above the date upper right hand corner.

Scroll down to and click on "Report inappropriate content" type in "please close or delete this thread."
