Cautionary note for those that use eBay for price discovery

We have two stores and on July 7 we ended all our listings.  Roughly 1800 listings in all.  Days later, not being logged into any particular eBay account and having our history and cache cleaned from our browser, we notice that as we looked at our sold listings, we found many of our ended listing showed as sold.  We confirmed that the filter included only Sold items and not Completed.  In addition, many of our sold listings (not all) from the past, had the sale date of July 7.  In particular, an item that last sold in August 2019 showed as being sold on July 7 as well.  Fortunately, not all 1800 items showed as sold and I am not about spend the time to reconcile all the items to determine what items are in error.

We frequently end listings for various reasons and never paid attention in detail to the sold listings.  But on this scale, it highlighted the errors and raises concerns.  This just adds fuel to our decision to temporality close our eBay stores.

So the next time you check sold prices on eBay… the sold items may not be correct.  It may be best to check outside of eBay for additional information.
