I work for a non profit and we have had our ebay account for over 20 years now. When it was first made the admin at the time made it a personal account. When I became in charge of the account, I was able to convince our board to allow us to turn it into a nonprofit business. However, when I went to switch I cannot choose the nonprofit option. It is there but not clickable. I know you can switch accounts because earlier this year I helped another nonprofit switch their ebay account to a nonprofit one. I know it is possible. For the past month and a half I have talked with customer support and even emailed the charity team. However, one rep told me that you couldn't switch and to make a new account and another said it was a technical issue. If anyone has had similar issues or knows what I am doing wrong please let me know. Any help is appreciated

Is the current account still set to personal?
Are you just now changing it to a business account or did you already do that in the past, and now trying to change the business type to a non-profit?
Is Manage Payments set up and confirmed with the corporate name and bank account, or still using the personal account name and bank account?

It was set up as a personal account and originally it was hooked up to the organizations Paypal. Then when eBay started managing the payments it was hooked up to the organizations bank account. Earlier in March when I wanted to see what info we needed for the principal officer, I was able to click it and move on from there to get to the principal officer. However in the middle of March, when I got all the info and papers I needed, I was unable to click the nonprofit option.

If you had already upgraded it to a business account from a personal one, but did not select non-profit at that time, that is the problem. I don't think ebay will even now change the type of business entity for you and you will have to open a new account with the proper selection to start with.

It was never changed to a business account. It is still a personal account.

Ok, now I understand. So you went to your profile and edited the account type to business, but now you are stuck not being able to select the correct type. Your best bet is still to use one of the links I posted to inquire about it. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find anything else out, but haven't seen this problem before.

"It was never changed to a business account. It is still a personal account."
Wouldn't they have to move to a business account before they could change to NP? Does not read that they have done the first in order to do the second.

That's what I was thinking too, but can't find anything to confirm it. The non-profit option is certainly there when you set up a business account to begin with, but appears maybe not for when you change from a personal account.

They could try unclicking the corporation then clicking on the Non-profit. I have seen cases where if one is marked, it will not allow the second to be clicked till the first is cleared. Could be one or the other but not both situations. (I have not dealt with this just making an observation/suggestion)

Add to my above post. I am thinking the first 3 are for profit classifications so could be why non-profit is ghosted out. Don't know, but guess it would not hurt to try.

This is a reply I got from the customer service team after they investigated the issue. I don't know what it means but hopefully I can change to a nonprofit soon. Thank you guys for the replies and sorry for bugging you.

Asking a question is not bugging us. Most everyone that replies are here to help. Hope it gets sorted out. When you get it taken care of, please come back to this post and let us know how it went. 🙂
