Cannot check out of EBay using any credit card, apparently because of a Paypal issue?

This is likely a duplicate of some other problem, but after reading the previous thread which was incorrectly marked "solved", I realized that nobody is using that thread anymore.

I have a perfectly good American Express card, which I use every day, to pay for all kinds of things.  But it declines 100% of the time on EBay.

Only... American Express does not "see" the declines.

It turns out that *PAYPAL* is the entity "declining" the transaction, even though I am not choosing to checkout with Paypal - I am putting in my credit card info directly in EBay checkout.  But because Paypal "knows" about my Ebay account, somehow, they have for some reason blocked it, and I cannot reach a human at Paypal to unblock the account.

So I cannot buy *anything* from EBay at all!

No, I am not choosing to "Pay via Paypal".  I am choosing to "Pay via credit card," and putting my credit card information directly into EBay checkout.  Yes, I've tried different credit cards - my Amex, another Amex, and two other Visa cards from different banks.  They all work everywhere.  EBay declines them all.  EBay says it's a Paypal problem.  Paypal doesn't answer the phone.

When is Ebay finally going to completely ditch Paypal so that EBay can fix their own issues?  Or is there some other way to fix this, or to pay for Ebay things without going through Paypal at all?

@glenbarney  - I can't say for sure if the answer you received from eBay about it being a PayPal problem is 100% true, but it is possible.

eBay is currently in the process of transitioning sellers to eBay Managed Payments to process the payments on all sales.  Previously, credit card payments were processed by PayPal even if you did not specifically select "PayPal" as the payment method and that will still be the case for sellers who are not yet moved over to eBay Managed Payments.

If eBay is correct that your issue is coming from a problem with PayPal processing the card, the only thing I can suggest would be for you to try to find a different seller for that item who is using eBay Managed Payments instead.

You can tell if a seller is in Managed Payments by looking at the logos for accepted payment methods.  If it shows G Pay or Apple Pay, that seller is in Managed Payments.

PayPal is their payment processor for this item apparently.  They process  payments through the site, whether it's with a PayPal account or just a credit/debit card. When you don't use a PayPal account, PayPal creates a 'guest' account with your card. These 'guest' accounts have a limit on them, generally around $1,000. PayPal doesn't tell you this and they don't tell you that you're close to the limit. Just one day you can't buy anymore. You will have to get in touch with PayPal via their Live Chat option and ask for their Limits Department. They will be able to remove the limit and then you will be able to purchase on eBay again.

Like the previous member stated, they are transitioning to processing their own payments, so, reps will be able to fix issues instead of having to direct you to PayPal.

Re: Cannot check out of EBay using any credit card, apparently because of a Paypal issue?

I buy and sell and have issues with credit card payments both ways. Whenever I try to pay for something using one of my saved credit cards, ebay tells me something is wrong with the information, (Usually the CV code). I make sure the information is correct and ebay still says something is wrong. Every CC I have connected does the same thing. Ultimately I have to pay using paypal, then select the credit card I want to use, using paypal's payment options. I know ebay is slow at problem solving, but it's been months now. I have multiple buyers that have had the same issue while trying to pay. Some have papal and others do not. The ones who have paypal, I can guide through the process, but the others, I end up having to lose the sale because they cant pay. Buyer points the finger at me, I point the finger at ebay, ebay sits around counting their interest money on managed payments, to busy to pay attention and paypal sits on the bench. As a result, and as I have done before in the past with other issues, I find my way to this useless corner of ebay's supposed help area only to find more confusion and no answers. I vent a little about ebays overflowing cornucopia of problems and their indifference, but usually find at least one person who stands up to defend ebay and tell me that I'm doing something wrong. It's a sad state of affairs when a company get too big and completely loses touch with fundamental operations. How sad is it that ebays own search engine is not nearly as good at locating items on its own site as google is? Want to find that rare item you have been looking for on ebay? Don't use ebays search engine, it will not turn up the results you are looking for. Use googles search engine and it will find your item and the link to the active ebay listing you are trying to find. Okay.. I feel a little better, at least I shouted into the void of ebay's useless help area!
