Calling ebay with one time passcode, but never asked for it.

When I try to call ebay and going though the self-help options, I an giving a one time passcode which I am suppose to provide in the ebay system which is suppose to identify my account and possible the reason I called in. However the Telephone system never asked me to provide that passcode and the Ebay Rep is always confused when I am trying to identify my account by geting the numbers and letters confused.  I will try to tell them my passcode but they have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about or how to imput it to look up my account or reason for the call.

My question is why does the ebay website provide a passcode to identify the phone call( I think paypal does the same thing) when the phone system never asked for it?

Has ebay abandoned the one time passcode to identify accounts and reason for the call or is this something that is unique to me?

Thanks.

I'd like to know the answer, too. Just had session with CSR that took 4 calls to ultimately reach. First three attempts with voice-response units resulted in aggravation, time not well spent, and "we'll now transfer you call,...........*click*" (call dropped). Calls that used passcodes were always smooth sailing.
