Bug with Editing Listings when Maximum Items Listed?

I have talked to two different eBay support specialists about this issue. In each case the eBay team member spoke poor English and did not understand what I was explaining to them. I thought I might have better luck here in the forums.

I believe I have found a bug with editing listings once a person has the maximum number of items listed. This bug is reproducible.

Let's say I have a limit of 100 items. When I have 50 or 90 items in the system, I can edit all of those items without any difficulty. I can add additional photos, add descriptive fields, edit the text, and so on. I have no problem at all working with the listings. I've been on eBay for 22 years, so I am familiar with how all of those areas work.

However, now let's say I put in the 100th listing so now I am "full" and have listed my maximum number of listings.

The minute I am "full" I can no longer edit ANYTHING in any of my listings. I can't change any prices. I can't update pictures. I can't edit the text. They are all completely locked. The only way to undo the problem is to delete a listing, so I am now below the maximum for my account. As soon as I'm below the maximum, I can once again edit everything.

This sounds like a coding problem. It probably is that their method of updating a listing is to create a new listing and then delete the old (pre-edit) one. Since adding the new listing would go past the account maximum, the code balks at that point, even though the process ends up without a net increase.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Has anybody else hit this bug?

@lisajshea   That is the way selling limits work.  You can't revise any listings once your limit is met.  This is to prevent sellers from repurposing other active listings.   I know it's not a convenient block.

You can request a limit increase once every 30 days:

That's not the way eBay's limits work, though. If I have a 100-item limit, eBay doesn't care what 100 items I have listed. I can very easily remove items from the listing, add more items to the listing, as long as the aggregate stays below or at the 100-item limit. If I wanted to repurpose a listing, all I have to do is delete the active listing and add another listing. I've done that many times.

The only functional result of the current code is that the 100-item limit breaks the entire system as soon as it reaches that 100 items, without any alerts to the seller as to this situation. It then gives errors about 'limit issue' which aren't valid errors, since none of the actions violate the limit.

Especially when eBay screens are actively prodding sellers to add in item specifics, to then block item specifics from being added to existing listings, while giving error messages saying the account would therefore be over limits as a result, doesn't provide an understandable user experience.

@lisajshea  yes. But what are your $ selling limits?  If those are maxed out then you can't revise.

I am not even a third of the way to my dollar selling limits. I am staying well below the dollar-based limits for now. So it is definitely not related in any way to dollar selling limit levels.

@lisajshea   If you use FB I recommend contacting eBay for Business and ask them to take a look.  The agents are more experienced and see if there is something wrong with your account.

Contact customer service by sending a private message on social media. You leave a message and an eBay employee will get back to you as soon as possible. To speed things up you can leave your registered account information in the PRIVATE message: Full name, address, phone number, email address, user ID, and a brief explanation of your problem.
