Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

For the past few weeks, the U.S. site gets automatically translated (into Czech, since I live in the Czech Republic). I have failed to find a way to disable this, and it is infuriating. The automatic translation is terrible, only some things get translated, so it would not be helpful for Czech speakers who do not speak English, anyway, and when I use automatic translation to retranslate it into English, the outcome is even more bizarre.

Re: Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

If you are not a seller, you may have better results using another English-language eBay site such as ebay.co.uk, ebay.ie or ebay.ca instead of ebay.com.

According to eBay, users running into this issue should get in touch with eBay.

Since the Help & Contact links may not work if you are experiencing this problem, try contacting eBay via social media:

https://twitter.com/askebay

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/

Or try contacting eBay via another country site such as ebay.co.uk or ebay.ie and request a chat with an agent.

Provide customer support your username and the following number which should allow eBay to identify the problem you are experiencing: ALERT13931.

Re: Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

Thank you, I will give it a try.  Using ebay.co.uk would not work for me as it does not show all the stuff on ebay.com; I otherwise use ebay.de to look for items within the EU and that works just fine, no automatic translation there for some reason. Thanks again!

Re: Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

Hi, I have exactly the same problem and also got annoyed by the fact that I even cannot reach customer support. Whenever I try I end up in a dead end street when the system tells me my problem doesnt match the topics offered. But this hapens with all topics....

I also cannot reach my personal informations at mý account settings anymore.

So in a nutshell: the language was changed into Czech what I dont speak. My account setting isnt reachable. The customer service neither.

I have also been unable to access/edit my personal information settings.

I will try to follow the process kindly described above by eburtonlab, and will report if it met with any luck.

Re: Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

Hi guys, I just got a feedback by the customer service from ebay.com. They told me the automatic language setting is linked to the preferred shipping adress (why whatsoever...). I changed it according to the process described below and it worked...

".......and I found out that the Primary shipping address saved on this account is in Czech  Republic. This is the reason why the language on your account is in Czech. To resolve this, I highly recommend to delete all the shipping address in Czech republic. Here's how:

  1. Go to Account settings.
  2. Go to Addresses.
  3. Select Edit at the right side of Shipping address.
  4. Click Edit on the Primary shipping address.
  5. After updating the primary shipping address, kindly delete other shipping address in Czech republic.

ups, and for "no access to personal information@account setting", the .com team is aware and they are working on it. at least failure is reproducable, so they can tackle it...

Re: Automatic translation - failed to find a way to disable it

This is ridiculous. I use Czech and USA/UK addresses (when using a forwarder), and it keeps auto-translating everything into Czech. It's annoying. Why on earth does it not at least use my browser's preferences? My browser sends an Accept-Language header with en-US,en;q=0.7,cs;q=0.3, clearly indicating a preference for English. If they are unable to interpret Accept-Language correctly, they should at least include a Settings option that allows customers to disable this obnoxious "feature" directly.

And they also closed the old thread discussing it.

Well it's no surprise that eBay's stock is declining...
