Authentication Failure notice

Nearly every time I try to post a response to a board post, I get an "Authentication Failure" message.  I then have to go back to the thread, find the post I was responding to and try again.  It's happened enough times now that I EXPECT it to happen and so I copy my text prior to hitting the Post button.  I get the failure notice, find the post again and do a quick reply-paste-post, and then it will go through.  But why should I have to go through those extra steps?  Why doesn't it just post the first time?  Annoying!  Is this happening to others?

When it happens refresh the page and log back in. The if you go to your profile and scroll down the response you were typing will be there as a draft. The draft will have all that you had typed at the point when you were logged out.

I don't end up being logged out.  As noted above, I can copy my text prior to the first attempt to post and when I get the failure notice, I can just find the thread/post again and do a paste and post and it goes through.  If I was logged out, I wouldn't be able to do that until I logged in again.  But I'll try refreshing the page next time and see if that gives a different result.

When this error happens I usually have log back into community then go to my community profile and scroll down to drafts to pull up my response that was typed at the moment I got logged out of the community. Just a little while ago I got the error and was signed out. When I went to my community profile just above the draft section I noticed something really weird in the Private statistics section. At the end of this section it shows the browsers used to access community. In this section there were 5 different browsers listed. Out of the 5 actually only have 2 of the browsers Chrome and Edge. I mainly use Chrome for international shipping labels and do not use it to access community to often. It would appear that for some reason someone has been going into my account on the community forums and using browsers other than the browser I use. I spoke with a ebay rep and she said that they would only be using chrome to access a users account.

Has any other user that has gotten the authentication error actually checked and looked at this information. I recently seen a blue actually acknowledge the issue but the rep said they can not figure out what is causing the problem. For a long time I have thought the issue seamed like admins on eBay's end accessing the profile and bumping users out of their account. Although since these browsers listed are those that a eBay support rep would use this does seam like it could be a bigger security issue.

I took a screen shot of the browsers ebay says I have used to access the forum. I used red boxes to highlight the browsers I do not use and green to highlight the 2 browsers I actually have however chrome is not a browser I would normally use for the forums but there could be a possibility that I used chrome as I do not know how long this data is saved for.browsers.jpg

Your sign in with edge for the most part matches what is being populated on my end. I then tried using chrome and it again looked similar to what you posted. I guess this is not ebay saying these were the last 5 browsers but showing something else like plug ins or some other data. It just looks really weird perhaps that is why their site has so many issues.

That would be my guess as well -- an indication of browsers sharing common code rather than multiple browsers.

That or what shell the browser is using. I always thought that was determined by the OS so since I have a win 10 pc with ms edge as the original browser. All other 3rd party browsers like chrome would just be piggy backing off of edges shell program.

I tried replying to a post to my original issue "Printer friendly Page" but run into the same problem over and over again, annoying. I just gave up now.

Once you have signed back in to the community pages, check the bottom of your profile page -- there should be links to your latest saved drafts; you may be able to recover much of your work.

Keeping more than one community page open in different browser tabs allows you to refresh a page, and sign in again if necessary, without losing any text in the tab you are composing a response in. Before posting, check the top of the page to see if there is a red banner -- if so, do not post until you have signed back in.

It would be nice if we did not need to use these workarounds, but if the workarounds save you from having to recompose your text, or giving up, then the workarounds are worth trying.

If this goes thru I am going to tell all of you who helped me fix the printer problem that the problem is fixed! I switched browsers from ms edge to chrome and bingo, the printer friendly page IS friendly! I click on printer friendly page, then right click, and up come options where I choose "print". It prints! Thanks

Another trick to deal with this always open posts in a new tab. After you are done typing hit Control A then C to copy your replay before you click post. Then if the error occurs your reply is copied and saved temporary in the clip board. Sign back in and in the original search open the post again in a new tab then past in your reply and click post.
