@Anonymous
I just wanted to follow up and see if there are any updates to the failure of promoted listings to populate. This is another screenshot taken yesterday from an auction style listing for a 1920 S PCGS certified penny. Only one result populated for promoted listings and it was a fixed price 1942 D PCGS certified Penny. I have promoted listings for 6 1920 S certified pennies by PCGS and NGC, and all of them would have been a better match then the 1942 D and blank spaces shown. This issue is more frequently seen on auction style listings and this is troubling since auction items ending sooner get the most visibility.
Now that impressions are restored to promoted listings tabs I can go back to June and see that my impressions have dropped by over a MILLION and both clicks and promoted sales reduced by half since June. I can't imagine ebay hasn't noticed a decline in promoted listing sales. This is why.....
Maybe this issue is serious enough to forward to Ebay's office of the President?

Did not know about this bug, but really seems like in general ebay has given up. I can list about 6 things that have been broken in our store since near end of June and support still says none of them have any estimated dates of fix. Ruining the entire year. Yeah we still get sales but on harsh 10% trending promoted rates and nothing like has been for past couple years. It's so sad. Good luck with your issue thou.

Hi @coinslabz26! I asked the Promoted Listings team for clarification about this. They've let me know that the empty spots are a result of a lack of relevant items (compared to the one being viewed) within the category. Only promoted listings will be displayed in that field. If there aren't enough relevant promoted listings then there may be empty space.

Perhaps there may be a miscommunication preventing the issue from being fixed. As stated there WERE promoted listings to fill the white promoted listings spaces.
If a 1920 S PCGS certified Lincoln Cent could be connected as "similar" to a 1942 D PCGS certified Lincoln Cent. Then why would my PROMOTED 1920 S PCGS Lincoln Cents not show.
But please, please, please understand this. It is MOST search results doing the same thing. You are only seeing a hand full of screenshots but I could provide hundreds. Please consider reporting this above their heads. If they don't even wish to look into the issue then why should the entire community suffer for it?
Please know that I understand only promoted listings show in the sponsored suggestions. This is not a misunderstanding on my part.

Hi @coinslabz26, what item number are you viewing when you see empty space? I've checked several 1920 S PCGS Lincoln Cent listings and could not replicate your screenshot. The Sponsored section was full of listings. If you can give me detailed steps to replicate it then I'll be happy to send the example over.

That listing has since ended. I am happy to provide a list of listings that have a few days left. Tough they will probably just reply that there is "nothing similar" again. That problem was not with a 1920 S listing it is happening everywhere. The way the sponsored listings display in the coin category there should always be something similar.
Item numbers as follows
382586433246 (showing just one 1882 CC Morgan as a sponsored listing with white spaces .....I have 2 1882 CC's and better matches in my own inventory that could have displayed).
153213024025 (showing one sponsored listing for a "Random Year" Morgan Dollar..... the rest white spaces)
323498469942 (3 similar sponsored listings for 3 unrelated date commemorative half dollars..... the rest white spaces)
192685496394 (1909 D $5 showing....the rest white spaces)
I can provide more examples but I think this should show the problem. The sponsored listings that display are loosely related enough where there is always going to be something similar to display, but with most of these I have a similar item in my own inventory so I know there is a promoted listing to fill the void. I just hope you see the same blank spots. Thank you for continuing to look into this.

Thanks @coinslabz26! This is helpful. I have one more ask. Can you also give me one of your promoted item numbers that is similar to each of these examples? Once I have that I'll send this over!

Sure it will be my pleasure. Please keep in mind that there are many other possibilities for matches since they are not doing date/mint matches but it seems to be more along the lines of PCGS Morgan Dollar to PCGS Morgan Dollar rather then 1885 Morgan to 1885 Morgan etc. This is why there should always be matches.
Also to be clear I don't expect my listings to show up in every Sponsored Listing spot. But these are ones I can confirm would have been a closer match then a white space just in my own inventory, and other ebayers also deserve their items displayed but obviously I don't know who sponsored what. This is what the promoted listings team should investigate.
Anyway the first one (item 382586433246) where there existing matches of 1882 CC Morgan Dollars. I have 3 promoted 1882 CC Morgan Dollars Certified by NGC and PCGS and were as closely matching as the results shown.
Item numbers 323464027814, 232939192232, 323488295154
The second one (153213024025) that showed "Random Date Morgan Dollar" from one of ebay's Bullion dealers. The same 3 above could have matched. Since the sponsored listing showed the random year Morgan then really anything could have been a match here.
Item numbers (could be any silver dollar)
The third example (323498469942) compared to 3 random commemoratives. Again anything could fit there but 3 possibilities as follows.
Item numbers 323115112562, 232449127282, 223022915308
The 4th was the 1901 S Gold $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle with a single sponsored listing showing that was a 1909 D $5 Indian Head Half Eagle. All of my Liberty Head Half Eagles would have been a better match then the Indian Head. Possible matches included below.
Item numbers 232810654030, 232812428700, 223075545100, 223020548678, 222999404584, 322978622708
I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this!

Thank you VERY much for hearing me out and allowing me to explain the issue. Now I just hope they fix it 🙂
Please also let them know that this is a new issue and it was not always like this. It changed in about June and I went from about 3 million impressions down to 1.2 million. Sales and clicks from promoted lisitings are also down by about half, and that is just from me. Even if in June this was an intentional change.....blank spaces are not profitable.
