I had to create a new account and log in under that user id to even be able to post this ...
My old account that I have had for about 20 years will not allow me to log in. If I put in my email address OR my user name to try to log in, it says "We ran into a problem. Please try again later." If I go to any of the help pages and try to do anything it suggests, it still requires to put in my email address or my user name there, and with either one it says "Oops, that does not seem to match," or something like that. So from all that, it seems as if my old account is completely "gone".
However, when I went to create the new account to make this post, I put my email address in and it said there is already an account under that email (so I had to use a different email to set this one up). Then when I tried to put in my (old) user name for this new account, it says that name is already taken. So that suggests that my old account IS still out there, somewhere.
Note that my email account may have been compromised a few days ago. I already changed that password and have it "safe" now, and don't see any signs in it of any shenanigans involving my eBay account. I suppose someone could have gotten my old eBay password sent to my email and intercepted it, then logged in and changed my eBay password. But that still would not explain why I can't even get past the "We ran into a problem, please try again later" message. Even if the bad guys changed my eBay password, it still should at least accept the user name or email address, and then ask me for the new password, but it doesn't.
I tried the help chat, and all it does is give you links right back to the same login pages that do not work, which is a waste of time. I called the "customer service" number and it is a bigger waste of time, as the only thing it will do is text you a link to the same pages that I already have gone round and round with. Sure would be nice to be able to speak to a human being who could simply pull up the old account on their screen and see what the heck is going on.
Any suggestions?
