Account may have been hacked

Hello all,

Recently, I've tried to login to my account, but it said that it was locked and I would have to reset the password to login. The problem is that whoever took over my account changed the email address as well, so I can't even sign in to change the password, let alone figure out what the email is. I have no idea what to do and I'm just waiting on the customer service line for 1 hour+. I made a new account to post this here if anyone can help me out.

Thank you very much

Was that eBay account linked with your Paypal? I would be calling Paypal as well to unlink them if it was. Also when setting a password make it something very hard to hack. I've personally never been hacked but I always set a password that contains several Uppercase Letters as well as Lowercase, 1 or more symbols and 1 or more numbers and is usually 10-15 characters long. I know all that isn't mandatory on Ebay but I follow that with everything, for every account rather it is mandated or not. Hopefully once you get through to a CSR they will help you out. Sorry I've never had this issue and wouldn't be able to tell you how to proceed. Hackers will also send out fake emails pertaining to almost everything, NEVER click on those and input your account information. No company will ever send you an email asking for you to input your account information for any verification purposes, least none I've dealt with. Hope you get it all straightened out and get your account back.

Account may have been hacked

There's some good info here:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Member-To-Member-Support/Someone-just-hacked-into-my-account-and-chang...

The signinalert link no longer works, but the other info is useful.

Good luck -- I hope this helps.

Thank you for the feedback!

And no, my account was not linked to my paypal, however, I believe I had my debit on there still. Like when I wanted to buy something the card would already be selected.

Thanks for the feedback,

However, I've already looked at that page and it seems like all the info/solutions have to do with things when you're signed into your account. I can't even login though, due to the email being changed.

That means that your email account was "hacked"

Weak password, password reuse, and passwords reverse engineered from a data breach dataset, malware/keylogger, or phished.

Or, you either are using same password for email and eBay, or once email was pwned, eBay password reset was performed.

If you have any other accounts (PayPal. banking, social networking,,...) that use that email account and/or same passwords then those accounts are potentially in trouble also.

Malware/keyloggers on computer or device* is also a possibility. If computer/device is compromised, there is no point in fixing email or eBay accounts yet as those changes would just be observed, and accounts pwned again.

*80%+ of mobile infections are on Android devices.

Don't have any details on regaining control of your eBay account, and not sure you can - that email was your "identity" to eBay, but maybe you can call eBay CS and they can "20 questions" you about birthdate, SSN, any other info that eBay has that the "hackers" would not have access to just by controlling the eBay account (information that can be entered or changed but is not viewable)

Follow the instructions lacemaker3 provided in the other older thread linked above.
