I offer 30 day returns on my items. One buyer bought and item and wants to return it but Ebay won't let him do it until August 31. The item was bought and payed for on July 29. I assumed that returns can be done within 30 days. In my return preference I have "Approve a return" turned on, with the refund max set to $500 or less, ( the item to be returned is $130), and all return reasons accepted. The item to be returned is damaged, by the way. I have the "Send a refund" off because it says that the buyer can keep the item and then I would send them a refund automatically. I do not want to do that. How do I set up for 30 day returns with any return is within the 30 days of purchase.
Replies:
Yes, anything within thirty days should have been approved and ebay should have sent a return label.
What type of return request did the buyer open?
Did you have to the opportunity to approve it manually?
(Me) I did not have the opportunity to approve it manually. I will ask the buyer what type of return request did he open and also include the link to the buyer's return instruction.
Assuming your Return Preferences are set up correctly here:

Are you sure there is no Business Policy on the listing overriding it?

(Me) I checked and I do not have any business policies. My return preferences are shown in the enclosed photo. The buyer responded back saying "If I select return item it tells me that the option to return the item is not available yet. I do not get the opportunity to select a type of return". My business policies page is also included. (Photos of settings were enclosed).
That is odd that the buyer can't even open the return till a certain date. Never saw that message myself.

Nor have I, though my experience with actual returns is pretty limited lately. I do not recall seeing any similar posts lately, and a quick search using likely keywords turns up nothing that seems relevant.
About the only thing I can think of to suggest is for the buyer to try switching between app and browser to see if one works better or at least provides a different error message. Find the transaction in Purchase History or Purchases and use the return link there to avoid possible issues with a link in an email.
The exact text of the error message(s) might be useful for searching to see if this has occurred before and if there is a workaround.
Ebay technical team please help me.

Buyer cannot open a claim until estimated date of arrival of item. If item arrives on August 31st in their hands then they can open a claim after that date. Buyer has 30 days starting after August 31st to open a claim.

Another one I don't understand: Per the MBG, if a buyer receives an item that's NAD, he can start the return process the day he receives it and has 30 days after that date to do so. He does not have to wait til he has had it 30 days.
