RPPC - paper stuck to surface - solution?

Supposedly, because my Real Photo is an actual photograph, I can place in water and soak off the paper stuck to the front, and then hang it up to let it dry like a normal photo.

Has anyone tried this?  I keep seeing in my minds eye those RPPC's that are water damaged if I try this.    I guess I could just test the water issue on a 25c card.

RPPC - paper stuck to surface - solution?

To be honest I think I want this for my own collection and if I can get the paper off I'd be pleased.  Many years ago I trained in printing in black and white photos and they all soaked in water for awhile.  I think I'm going test water on a useless 25c rccp and if that does damage the card, try the qtip method.

RPPC - paper stuck to surface - solution?

i don't do RPPCs because of the backing unless there is information I want to see. Then I use something like a wet Qtip and go very slow. Most if the time I leave it on and if the buyer wants to take a chance they can

RPPC - paper stuck to surface - solution?

I soaked a trimmed rppc in water for an hour and then hung it to dry, it curled a little but otherwise was fine.   But I realized the card I want to repair has inked typing on the back and a stamp, which I would lose if wet so I will try the Qtip method and report back.

RPPC - paper stuck to surface - solution?

Following up on this fascinating topic, I tried  using a moist Qtip on the offending areas.  It worked on most of the stuck paper but there seemed to be a final layer that was not going to come off without using damaging friction and would probably leave some kind of mark or shadow, so I left it at that.  I still seem to think if I were to submerge and soak the card the paper would come off but I would lose the message and stamp, so I'll just leave it as is.   Most of the photo is visible.

However, the test was useful in that it showed the rppc can be put in water without damage to the card.

I'm glad you got back with your findings Maybe take a cheap card that you know has something on back and soak it. I also dry my wet photographs by hand and then put them in a towel and weight them down for a few days  they come out acceptable. But if I'm not doubt I don't mess with cleaning them up
