The buyer has contacted me directly and wants my paypal email so he can pay me. Is that right?

Not right at all.   That is a scammer that will send you a fake paypal paid email in hopes you will ship the item before you realize there is no money in your paypal account.

A legitimate buyer will not want to pay that way because if they do they have no buyer protection on eBay or PayPal. That means if you didn't  send the item you could keep the payment and there's nothing they could do.

When they want your PayPal email it so they can trick you with a fake PayPal payment receipt in the hopes you will think you were paid and ship the item.  

They're not going to pay you.
