why am i now getting charged insertion fees when i have never been charged before?

Because you are way over the allotted 250 free listings. For every listing you are over 250 you are charged an insertion fee.

I am having the same problem. I have never gone over the 250 free listing allotment.

I recently deleted several listings that were years old, to make room for newer items.

Then I added the new items, to reach a new total of 250.

Since 10/21 I have been charged $.35 insertion fees for 8 new items.

Cancelled listings still count toward the 250 free listings.

When you cancel items,  you need to wait until the next monthly cycle, otherwise they have already been relisted and count towards your 250 free ones.   In otherwords, if you had 100 items renew today and then you  cancelled them, you would only have 150 left for this month
