email for purchase i didn't buy. what should i do

hi, i got an email from ebay, which looks authentic, that i purchased a $1200 playstation card.   it states that the method of payment was a credit card, there is an order #, but no other info.

this screams fraud, but i'm not sure what to do .

i don't have a credit card on file, and i checked mine, and don't see the purchase on any of them.

is there anything i should do?

if there is no supporting evidence of use of your card, it is most likely just a phishing attempt.

I get them all the time from a fake Paypal, and they look pretty authentic, but if you check mail headers, that usually gives it away.

Don't click any links from the message, or call any "toll-free" numbers to cancel or verify.

Forward the email with the header to spoof@ebay.com

report it as a spoof and then delete it and empty the trash as well and carry on....

there seems to be a rash of spoof emails happening in the last month or so on everything from A~Z

all you can do is be vigilant and protect yourself. be smart, if you suspect something is wrong it probably is.

use a outside source to verify.

Very common scam.   They try to get you to enter info into a fake web site.   It's an old scam.  There use to be fake emails saying you purchased some expensive item.  They went on to say if you did not, click here for a full refund.  They then asked you to enter your paypal pass word.  Just a way to steal your pass words.

Many of the old classic scams are making a comeback.
