ebay gift card balance GONE

Hi, so here is the issue. I went to make a purchase. I redeemed my gift card code in the specified area and worked as expected, however, i then removed an item from the cart. Then the code disappeared and the total reset. Then i tried to enter the code again and it said there is NO BALANCE in it. I checked the balance of the card as well, and IT SAYS $0. I did not EVEN make the transaction at all and my card balance is immediately disappeared. Can someone explain this?

Was the purchase for the full amount on the card?  They may have placed a hold on the amount of the purchase. That will go away in time since the purchase was newer made.  However, if the card had more than the purchase amount on it, that won't explain that.

I would call the number on the back of the card and see what they say.

So the purchase was not for the full amount on the card, hence why i removed an item from the cart, but then the code went away for some reason after i did that. I then entered the code again with the revised shopping cart and the code did not work. I then go to check the balance and it says 0$, when i never even clicked the Confirm and Pay button on the checkout page. I did contact ebay support about the issue and have sent the required documentation they needed. By any chance, do you know how long this hold will last?

Ebay gift card fraud is commonplace for cards bought through retail outlets.

You can check the AARP website or search gift card fraud online.

This sounds like a classic case where your card is being drained.

My guess is that Ebay may not help you.

It doesn't seem like fraud though. I purchased this card from CVS Pharmacy, and when i typed the code in initially it did work. Then i saw the total and removed an item from the cart and then the code went away when the total changed. Then i reentered the code and it said that there is no balance on it. I also went to the official ebay gift card balance checker and it said the card has $0 value.  I also just now checked and it still says $0 value.

I don't think it's a hold.  Those go away in a day or so.   Gift cards are nothing but trouble and should be avoided.

It's agreed that they are trouble and i probably won't deal with them again. I will wait a response from ebay support and will check tomorrow again to see if balance is restored. Honestly I think the unfortunate part here is that the gift card value was $150, otherwise id honestly just whip out the credit card and get back to NASCAR diecast collecting (probably on smaller priced items though).

Heres an update: from the support team, they credited the amount back to my ebay account. My issue is solved 🙂

I bought a $45 eBay gift card and when I redeemed it , it showed its value as $32.01 ! This was for a $38.33 purchase.

Each time I tried to apply it the dollar amount was different.

Of course the only way to communicate with eBay is via texting.

So I had to submit photos of my gift card and receipts to eBay plus a hand writing sample in each photo because it would break them to correct the $12.99  I'm owed.

The person I was texting even said that he could see the card's value as $45, I mean what the hey ??

I contacted the sellers of the two items I'm trying to buy from and told them how they lost a purchase and why and I said , how much other business have you lost because of eBay screw ups ??

I've never had these issues with Amazon.

But I'm done with eBay.

Just had the same issue. Have to wait 7-10 business days. Item I want to buy will be gone by then. They admitted they see the exact issue and still say I have to wait that long. This is literally the worst company to buy anything from. Will be my last time using them.

Hey can i ask where they credited it to? do i have to have a paypal, debit/cc or bank linked to the account or did they send it themselves?
