eBay held payments

I sold an item Friday August 25, 2023 and shipped to customer via UPS. Customer received the items today, August 30, 2023. Now eBay sends me a notice that my funds  are on hold until September 8 … how is this humanly fair? Other than earning interest on my money what is the purpose of this? I just started selling again on eBay and run into this. I will look for another website to sell my products in the future. Just another sign of corporate greed.

How is it corporate greed?

eBay has stated they do not earn interest on payments on hold.  They earn interest on the final value fees they take out of your payout but your proceeds from the payout doesn't  earn interest.

You are an infrequent seller and also selling a high value item, therefore your payment will be held 14-30 days.  After it's  available it takes 1-3 days to reach your checking account.

Many sellers complain about 30+ day holds.

You haven't sold anything in over 6 months. Ebay considers all sellers (new or returning) without a 90-day selling history as new sellers and subject to holds.

It's all in black and white in the TOU. Did you read what you signed?

Ebay prefers that any refunds come out of your pocket, not theirs, especially for an $800 item.

I only hope for you that your funds will be released as quickly as Sept. 8th. Hang in there.🤞

Good luck on finding a website which does not have holds on payments to new and low history sellers.

This is not like the Wild West days of the internet when buyers and marketplaces had little protection.

In the old days of Ebay, when Pierre ran the company, buyer had no protection other than leaving negative feedback, which was worthless.

This is in response to all the comments below. I should have prefaced my original message by stating that I’ve been a business eBay seller for over 20 years with over 6,000 feedbacks  and at 100% and this latest endeavor was to add a personal profile to show my excess auto parts. eBay knows who I am whether or not the general population does. And for anybody naïve enough to think that they’re sitting on money for a week and not earning interest on it, I’ve got a bridge in New York I can sell you. God bless, and good luck to all of you!

Really? I suppose you must not know that eBay does not initially receive the buyer's money. Adyen is eBay's payment processor.

eBay has announced publicly on their site in different places they do not earn interest on seller funds that are held. Their many attorneys would not allow them to declare that were it not true.

So call eBay the liar if you must but I think  you should be able to prove your allegations before you make accusations.

Yes, eBay knows exactly who you are, and the length of time you've been here or the number of successful transactions do not exempt  you if the transaction  on this name meets the Payment Hold policy.

Just do what other sellers are doing and ebay is allowing. Put in your description to DM you and you only accept crypto payments. I have found over 2800 listings like that. The dead giveaway is when they put "see description" in the title of the item  or "read description" . you can report those listings over an over day after day and ebay doesnt remove them. So not only will you not have to pay any seller fees, now the buyer has no recourse to return item if defective.

There are lots  prohibited listings that haven't  been reported.

You should read eBay's virtual currency policy and the payment methods policy.

Direct contact information can only be exchanged after eBay checkout is complete. This includes getting buyers to get in touch with details of alternate payment methods.
