Ebays new policy seems to require a bank account linked to your profile, and will not pay you back through paypal as they have been since the beginning. When I tried to add my bank information, a "something went wrong" error appeared. I have a Fidelity checking account and other services are able to use that account for EFT, direct deposit, etc without any problems. After speaking with eBay customer support on the phone and email, they just stopped responding to my emails, claiming that the issue has been resolved. Well my money is still with eBay from when I sold my last item and they refuse to add my bank information, claiming that it is my bank that is the problem and that I should just open a new account somewhere else. The best support they can offer is to "DeLete yOur CooKIes" as if the problem is mine and not theirs. I did that too and surprise surprise, that didnt fix it.
They did not tell me about this policy until after I sold an item. So now I am out the item and the cost of shipping. Sellers beware!

If you previously used Paypal (like all of us), it is a simple task to open another 'online account' with a bank. They are free, easy to setup, and require no monthly fee. That way you can use it exclusively for your ebay transactions.
Not saying it can't be done, but Fidelity is not a traditional bank (I don't think)
There seems to be some 'issues' with non-traditional banks.

The chage over form PP has been going on for a long time:
The only reason you may not have known was that you have eBay notices turn off. Your fault not eBays.
As for linking account unless that info on bank is exactly the same as on eBay (case sensitive) you got problems.
Best to open an accout with exact same info that you are registered with on eBay.
Adds a layer of protection as well.
Oh and the money; if any: will eventually make your state treasury department in your name as unclaimed funds...if payment method does not get straight.
That is about all the advice I can give on this mess. Good luck.

It has to be a checking account through a real bank, Fidelity is not a bank.

I have the same issue as OP so the account name has to be case sensitive? I'm on my 4th bank and 2 are exactly case sensitive as my eBay account. One is chase bank and the other green dot recommended here. My main bank that I tried had my middle initial but all upper case. Then I tried Chime suggested by eBay who said my middle initial didn't matter it also failed. I tried using my middle initial in first name as recommended and didn't work. My main bank is on the preferred list so how many banks do I need to use?

2nd part of that issue is changing my information works on the profile but after you do that and look at other information it didn't change.

Do not know what to tell you: but I mean exact to all details for sure.
I use a local bank for this and had not problems so far. I had notice a glitch going on with some of this.
Has the micro deposits method fail at your banks?

SO dave I'm in the same boat you are...guess we will both have to wait until lost money show's up on list that we can claim years from now? BTW for all you responders look at your profile middle name is optional. I don't work in a flower shop but I am an access developer and optional in database term means its not a unique key. The bank uses the same fields in their form. First name-middle initial(name)-last name.

I am not sure what a "traditional bank" is vs my bank, at least as eBay defines it. How do I know which banks eBay will accept?

From the fine print on Fidelity Website:
Fidelity is not a bank and brokerage accounts are not FDIC-insured, but uninvested cash balances are eligible for FDIC insurance.
---------------------
Google Search: Fidelity Bank
Fidelity Bank, also known as Fidelity Bank Plc., is a commercial bank in Nigeria. It is licensed as a commercial bank with international authorization, by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the central bank and national banking regulator.
I would venture to say that your account is not in Nigeria, and if it is, ebay may have an issue with that....

I had A Schwab Account at one time. It had most the features of a bank, but it was not a 'bank'

Yes the middle name issue was brought up when I was on the phone with eBay customer service and I added it to eBay so that it matches identically to by bank. That did not change the outcome or error message. Like I said in my OP, other services have no problem doing these kinds of microtransactions, ETF, etc. This is why I believe the issue is with eBay's software not my bank. Besides, my bank told me that they did not decline any such transactions, it is as if the request never arrived on their system.
My name, routing number, and account numbers all match exactly, I have checked and tried many times, so that is not the issue.
Sorry you are in this situation, but at least I feel a little better to not be alone. The fact that there are other people in this situation validates for me that this is an issue that eBay really needs to buck up and solve. My cynical side whispers that they are incentivized to not fix it because they get to hold my money for longer.
They should not allow people to sell if there is no confirmed way to pay us. Seems like a really basic rule to implement before the item is allowed to be listed.

My checking account is technically administered by UMB Bank and it is an FDIC-insured account. Not sure why or how the FDIC part figures in to why eBay cannot do ETFs though.
Sorry to hear you had the same issue with Schwab. Clearly there is a pattern here that eBay needs to address. There are many ways they could do this, for instance not allowing items to list unless there is a way they know they can pay us, or provide a list of banks that they will do business with, or maybe just keep allowing PayPal. PayPal's software recognizes my bank so this is not impossible, eBay just has bad software.

OK...I have read and will pass this on...
The "Routing Number" on your check may not be the routing number that accommodates this system....
UMB's routing number is 101000695
One on of my accounts, the routing number on my check is 041000153
The routing number for one of my online recurring payments only worked when I used a different routing number 044000024 (which is the 'wire transfer' routing number for that bank)
dunno why, but just throwing that out there...
maybe because adyen is based in the EU?

I am having this issue with a Bank of America account. This is an ebay withholding issue.

They don't work well with BOA, probably need to get an account at another bank.
