Update to Payment Processing with American Express

here is the question from a community member and the answer from an ebay staff member

Q -  If a buyer has their American Express card set up on their PayPal account, can they use their PP account with their Amex card as payment on Ebay?

A -  While you can add your American Express to Apple Pay and Google Pay on your device, you will not be able to use it to pay for items on eBay starting August 17. However you can still use other non-American Express cards such as Visa, Mastercard and Discover in your Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet on eBay. 

For more information about how American Express may be used with a PayPal wallet, please refer to PayPal.

Paypal and eBay are separate in regards to you trying to us AMX to pay an ebay account. Ebay has *managed payments* that they bill for any occurances.

I have paid for items on ebay with paypal and American Express was still an option for me at checkout. I have not used my American express card in a few months though. I will keep this thread in mind next time I want to payment for something off of ebay. Is there a direct policy with American Express  you can link to about this?

To continue using your American Express card from August 17 onwards, you can add it to your PayPal or Venmo account. We also offer a wide variety of alternate payment methods such as credit and debit cards, Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We strongly encourage you to save an alternate payment method to ensure you can continue to make purchases and sell on eBay smoothly after August 17.

This will still work.

as a rule I do not give ebay direct access to my payment methods.

Yup my selling days on ebay are over with for amex was for my payouts and before that it was paypal. So now ebay has screwed me for selling because they cry about **bleep** all the time and dont accept any stride or bancorp nanks now or american express

How were you getting paid through American Express.

It is for making payments, not receiving them.

I don't know how long you've been away from Managed Payments but in the U.S. eBay uses a checking account for Payouts. Not all banks are accepted.
