Unable to make a payment with a Chase bank card

I have agreed to purchase a somewhat expensive watch and each time I try to pay for it I am told there is an error and to check my info or use another method of payment. I called Chase bank to find out the problem and they told me they didn't even have the attempted transaction which means the problem lies with ebay, not the bank. This is a normal debit card from a checking account that has been used previously and there is more than enough in the account to cover the purchase. I tried to contact ebay and spent an hour in the worthless chat system with "Kumar" telling me that while he didn't know what the problem was that the special team was going to fix it in 24-48 hours. I have little faith in this solution. I would like to buy this item and I certainly dont want to get flagged as a buyer who does not pay so how do I get ebay to fix this? They won't even talk to me about the problem. Dont they make their money off people who sell things? If I cant pay they dont get a fee! I can't believe how lousy ebay has gotten over the years, I really am fed up. Any suggestions on how to get them to process a payment?

Ok, thanks. I will give that a try. My paypal account is linked to a different checking account so it seems like even if that works it is an unnecessary step to have to go in and change things, but I'll give it a shot.

What really irritates me is that I can't speak with a human being about what the actual problem is.

I added my card to my PayPal wallet. I prefer to have that extra layer of buying protection, just in case...

You can even set it as your 'Preferred' method of payment while shopping online for speedier checkout.

So I attempted to link the card to my Paypal account and paypal rejected the card. Refused to add it to the account. And it refused to link directly to the checking account with the routing and account numbers. I have spoken again with chase and they tell me there is no record of even the attempt of a purchase on their end. They did not reject the transaction which means Ebay is refusing my payment for some reason. I can't talk to a human being on the phone about this from Ebay so I don't understand what the problem is or how to fix it. Any other suggestions or ways to speak to a human?

The only thing I can add to the comments you've already received is that I find it interesting that you now have the same result for this debit card with two different entities, PayPal as well as eBay.  The common denominator being the card.  That sends up a flag to me a bit.  If PayPal wouldn't accept the card and eBay payment system can't accept it either, then I believe there is something askew with the card.   I would double check the expiration date.  I imagine you've double checked the routing # and acct # plenty of times already.   Do you have another card  you could try adding to PayPal (or to try on eBay for this purchase)  to see if you get the same result?

neither ebay nor paypal are accepting my chase  card !    I was two hours on the chat with them trying to find out why , went through five different special account experts but no result ...still unable to use chase card .

Don’t  feel too bad!  I’m a seller and EBay is refusing to accept my Chase card too! It appears an eBay issue. Now, go figure- they let me shop with the card on eBay & they do my weekly payouts via my Chase checking account, but when I attempted to change my payout method to the card- (which has been on file forever) nope!  It seems they are unable to link via the service they use to verify account authenticity. I kept getting the “unable to connect to your bank try again later”.  Ugh

I am having the same issues with adding my Chase Card and with Ebay and Paypal...so NOT a coincidence.
