Unable to close eBay account. Frozen Funds.

I just got off the phone with eBay's customer support for the 5th time in the last 2 days and was told anyone who wants their funds released before closing their accounts will have to open traditional checking accounts and provide eBay with their information regardless. eBay has no other ways of releasing those funds at the moment, she said. Will they ever? I doubt it.

Holding our funds, for those wanting to end our relationship with eBay, does feel unfair. People have a right to their money if they don't feel safe sharing sensitivity information with eBay or unable to open extra checking accounts for whatever reason. I am not even sure if what they are doing is illegal. Newspapers are not covering this. Their stocks are higher than ever. So it may just be me who sees this as a huge issue and a big FU by eBay to all of us.

Now for the people complaining about eBay's new payment plan/fees and STILL selling on their platform. Stop complaining. Either adapt or branch out to other marketplaces. eBay already made up their mind and complaining about the direction they took as a company, it's pointless.

The only thing I can add is sellers were clearly notified, in advance, that they needed to give the information by XX date, and if they didn't and can't get their money, it seems that a.) it was obvious this would be the outcome and b.) Led Zeppelins- nobody's fault by mine....

does not sound legal in the United States.

eBay may be biting of more than they can chew with this....

Or as usual the cs rep did not know what they were talking about.

Whats illegal about it, you were told to sign up for MP, if you want to continue to sell and get paid.

I don't really think newspapers care if you sign up so you can paid or not.

Have a great day.

If I'm reading your post correctly,  eBay switched you to managed payments before you added and verified a checking account,  is that correct? And now they're holding your $ until you add one? That does sound illegal.

In my case, I did provided them with all the required information on time but the checking account type I have is not accepted by eBay. I found this out very recently. I had to call them myself to find this out after my checking account was declined three times.

All other marketplaces have no issues sending my payouts regularly no issues, only eBay does. They shouldn't be forcing people into MP until their checking accounts were validated. No checking account, freeze their listings, until they accept their new terms of service. That's where they **bleep**ed up.

I don't see a lot of people complaining about being switched into MP before their checking accounts were verified... I wonder if only a handful were impacted because I only hear crickets when I bring this up.

All I know is that they are holding my money, until I open another checking account at a different bank if I wanted to ever see it. I spoke with a couple CS Reps and none of them had an answer other than "eBay has no other ways of releasing those funds at the moment"

Were you also forced into MP before your checking account was verified and funds held as well?

In that case, they shouldn't switch you over until they can verify the bank account and make sure you can receive your funds through it.

There have been a few that's been switched over before providing any information.

They don't know they've been switched over until they get an order and the payment isn't in their Pay pal account.

I think that's a little dirty to do it that way.

Have a great day.

No, I had about a 4-week notice before I was activated back in July.
