Transaction funds on hold - we can no longer set our own handling times?

I was reading a post regarding the sudden holding on payouts and some said they called Ebay and they were being held because the poster was a "casual" seller and that the holds would go away in a few sales or in 90 days.

I don't know the poster and I know nothing more than what was in his post but this seems like an unannounced change in policy and I can't see how ebay could hold funds for up to 90 days.

I went looking and found this on help pages for Transaction Holds (copied below from help pages)

"For example, we may place a transaction hold on a payment while we wait to confirm that an item has been successfully delivered to a buyer. To reduce the likelihood of a transaction hold, we recommend shipping an item the same day your buyer pays for it, and following good shipping practices."

The issue I have with this statement is that Ebay recommends you ship the item the same day your buyer pays for it to avoid possible holds.  So do our handling times mean nothing anymore.  I don't know about you but I thought sellers were able to set their own handling times and as long as those are met we are good.  Now to avoid arbitrary payout holds we are required to ship the same day that the buyer pays.

Does anyone know if this is a new policy or just another unannounced change in policy?

@kidzthree

^^^ THIS IS WRONG. As long as a seller ships within the Handling Time on the listing, a seller is gold with eBay.

An eBay recommended 'best practice' is to ship same-day, I suppose. And eBay doesn't have 90-day holds, either.

Re: Transaction funds on hold - we can no longer set our own handling times?

as i stated i am just trying to figure out information based on what i read in a post of this forum.

Don't know why do "you suppose" ebay recommended 'best practice' is to ship same  day as it is exact quote from their help pages.

Is there a policy of what a "casual seller" is.  Or is this even a new designation that ebay has created.  once again I am just going off what another ebay seller said and trying to nail down what is actual policy and what is not

I don't know what post you're referring to... I'd have to read it. What I read in your initial post is bad information, though. There haven't been any 'unannounced' changes as drastic as what you mention.

"I suppose" was bad verbiage... sorry. I concur  that eBay recommends same-day shipping. I have my Handling Time set at 5-Day so that I can ship same-day or up to 5 days out.

There is no 'Casual Seller' policy (nor 'designation') that I've ever heard of. (I'm a small seller, but I've been a seller for years.)

I know that new  sellers are put on (up to) 21-day holds on funds. Quite possibly, those holds relax after 90 days...
