Does anyone else think it is unreasonable that eBay doesn't adjust the transaction fees they collect from a sold item when the seller legitimately provides a partial refund to a buyer. The only way to have transaction fees adjusted to reflect the net sales price is to cancel the total transaction and then re-create a transaction with the buyer for the actual amount.
The scenario that bothers me is the most is that there are instances where a buyer reaches out to combine shipping or I agree to adjust shipping fees if they use Buy-it-Now to secure immediate payment. Ebay collects fees for the total price with shipping but doesn't adjust those fees when I issue the partial refund.
It is crazy because not that they manage all payment processing they have full visibility to the transaction flow and can see that a partial refund was issued. Just to be treated fairly I would have to jump through other hoops to get the right fee applied for the net transaction value.
Come on eBay, you control the software. Do the right thing for your sellers!

FWIW, ebay has never issued a partial FVF refund when the seller did a partial refund. Until about a year ago, paypal would give partial refunds but then they stopped that in favor of never giving any refunds at all, ever.
Many may feel ebay's practice is unreasonable but it is what it is so we learn to adjust for it.

They now have complete control of the money. What exactly do you want Ebay to do again?
Coming soon. MORE FEES, coming to a theater near you.

Ebay will follow the model set by Pay Pal. Ebay said that fees will remain the same and maybe less. Ya right.
Does anyone think this was done for the good of the sellers? eBay I'm sure, positively they have new ways that they are stirring in their pot. They would never have done managed payments if they didnt see a way to hit up the sellers for more.

Yes, I guess one adjustment is to go through a process of full refund and re-sell/invoice accordingly and/or end auction early to highest bidder and coordinate and adjusted invoice.

Their game, their rules.
Somehow that slipped under the radar when they forced us all to go to managed payments. Name any other industry wherein one party gets to unilaterally update the contract every few months and the other party has to do it their way or the highway.
Guess we learn as we go, and the highway beckons.

It's absolutely unreasonable. With managed shipping, they know how much you spend to ship, but apply fees to it under the reasoning that people used to try to get around them by charging exorbitant or false shipping and handling.
With managed sales tax collection, they collect the tax "for you" but add a fee to it from you.
With a refund, they know exactly how much they gave to the buyer.
It's theft. Plain and simple.
It also appears they do not refund any of the sales tax which is lower if you refund part of the sale to the buyer. Bet they don't pay that "extra" to the state, but who knows.

Good grief. Set your items up to provide combined shipping before payment and get it right up front.

Yeah, but BAD rules. It doesn't excuse it.

What does "learn to adjust to it" mean for buyers who want their shipping combined? Saying no? [Not a good solution.] Biting the loss? [Not a good solution.] How about offering a SPECIFIC suggestion for adjustment that works?

Sellers that don't provide combined shipping are just a little crooked.

eBay had no choice to keep using PayPal since their contract ENDED and PayPal didn't renew it.
