I have *bleep* about this before, but here's a new twist...I do not allow ebay to store my credit info, so I cannot bid on auctions.

I wanted to bid on two items from the same seller, auctions ending about a day apart.

So, I put in my card info, bid on both, then deleted my payment info. I figured if I won one or both, I would get a notice and would then pay.

Au contraire!

When the auctions expired, I found that "auto pay" had indeed debited my account. More than 24 hours after that card info had been deleted. As a side note, I had contacted the seller, who said he'd be glad to combine shipping, just wait on the invoices and he would adjust it - however, he said afterwards that this was not an option available, and instead he refunded me some of the shipping costs.

What this means to me is this: ebay had my credit card info for a nanosecond, and when I placed a couple of bids, the money for the items, plus shipping, was apparently put "on hold" by ebay until the auctions ended. Then the charges were run through even though I had deleted the card from my account.

I stronly suspect that ebay has somehow figured out a way to bleed a few cents from bidders, even when they "lose" an auction - by holding their bid money "hostage" for a certain amount of time.

This stinks. ebay should be investigated for churning these funds.

That is all I have to say about this.

I am at a loss as to what your 'experiment' resolved/solved.

At the time of the bid, your funding source was in place....how else should it be? If you delete the source AFTER you use it, what good is doing it in the first place...

"...I wanted to bid on two items from the same seller, auctions ending about a day apart...."

Did you try to contact the seller to remove the prepay option since you knew?

Not all buyers/sellers have the ability to combine prepaid auction results yet.....

I am perplexed......

The feature to be able to combine auction purchases is new and in the process of being rolled out,

It was a featured announcement when you entered the forum

Until a payment is made, no money leaves your account, it's just on hold.

If you don't win, nothing leaves your account.

Have a great day.

I understand not wanting to put CC info. online. So just do a different payment method like I did. I replied to your previous post on how I do this. No C.C. info. or checking acct. info. on file. As simple as starting a separate savings account linked to PayPal. Problem solved...................

Edit: I  checked your previous post and my reply wasn't there. Probably a goof up on my part. Anyway the savings acct. tied to PayPal works for me.

yeah exactly you see what happened was you gave eBay your payment information and then thought you would trick the entire system and figure out a way to be able to bid and choose to pay if you wanted to or not but since you put in your payment information eBay had it on record. Pretty sure you're just trying to figure out how to scam at this point because your issue makes no sense and is an illogical way to go about things. nothing works like this anywhere. everything you're trying to achieve is pretty much only of benefit to a scammer.

The only problem with most savings accounts, they only allow so many transactions a month.

Have a great day.

I'm just glad to see that eBay is always one step ahead of this buyer.

I used to do this with a separate card linked to PP. But then the banks wanted a pretty substantial amount in an account to avoid fees. Everybody wants money, I guess.

It's still irksome that combined shipping is no longer an option, and the onus is on the seller to refund.

Well, thanks for the insults, but I have never failed to pay for anything.

I just don't trust ebay with my financials.

use a virtual card (only for ebay) and don't worry about it, nobody's "hacking" ebay

your wasting time and effort for nothing

@cameramaam321 As soon as you save your credit card information and give eBay permission to deduct money from it they will have a record of that; it won't matter if you delete the card within seconds.

so your issue you've created is that you'll give eBay a form of payment but you won't give eBay a form of payment? you buy things here so think really hard about if you gave eBay your information to do that.

combined shipping is an option. you've created an issue for only yourself that prevents it from being an option to you.
