I have not sold anything on Ebay since they started handling all payments. How long are sellers normally waiting before shipping an item? And has anyone had any issues with returns etc...? Thank you in advance

We're on daily payouts - many do weekly. Have had no real issues since we switched last fall.
Has it been a while since you have sold on the platform? If yes, e-Bay may consider you a "new" Seller again with selling limits and pay-out holds.

2021 Spring Seller Update (ebay.com)
Here is a link to the Spring Seller update & Selling Limits - tried to edit above, but it timed out. Good luck and welcome back!

Am on weekly payouts.
If I am not in the middle of anything, I package it ready to get picked up for when USPS shows up later in the day. Otherwise, will schedule a pickup for tomorrow. While I don't promise one day handling time. I try to treat it that way.
Outside of a couple refunds, I thankfully haven't had to deal with a return yet. But I'm sure it'll happen soon enough.
Some sellers have been waiting until the money shows up in their bank account. So probably 3 or 4 days to as much as 10 days before mailing the item out. If it works for them, great.

I have been mailing my items as soon as eBay tells me the seller has paid. So far I haven’t had a problem with this. I also get daily payouts, which frequently means Tues, We’d, Thurs, Fri. No payouts on Sat or Sun and it seems like Monday gets used up with eBay processing the sales that came in over the weekend. My bank is really quick to show the money has made it to my account, usually the same day EBay sends it.

Most ship when eBay says it's okay to ship. That means that they have confirmed that the buyers payment source is valid and the money is being transferred to eBay' account. As to returns, sellers have lost whatever protection that they had with PayPal, as well as their fairly good customer support. eBay's CS has been going downhill since Managed Payments was rolled out to the masses at the same time the pandemic started and shows no signs of improving.

We did not change our handling times at all, except over the Holidays due to the USPS shipping delays. We don't wait for the monies to show up to ship - we do get a payout every Monday-Friday. Only exception was the Memorial Day holiday weekend fiasco. Really weird how they decided which orders would pay out when.
Returns for us are about the same - we have free returns on most items/30 days. There are some items that for us would not make sense to offer free returns due to weight/size, so we offer 30 day returns/buyer pays.

Now that e-Bay does not "show" the handling time on the listing, no idea if longer handling times to wait for payment to ship hurts overall sales. You can choose to have the shipping taken from the future payouts that are pending and not have to front the shipping.
If you are concerned about waiting until the actual payment clears - we switched last October and have had no issues with any payments being reversed, etc. Other Seller have posted though that they felt their listings were being suppressed or lowered in search due to long handling times. I don't know.

you have really neat fun items - that blue teapot is wonderful - and I love the floral doc martens!

I have one day shipping, so I ship the next day after the buyer pays. I get weekly payouts. They are sent to my bank every Tuesday morning and in my bank account by no later than midnight that same day. Very often they are in my account in eight hours or so. I use Navy Federal Credit Union.

I ship within ten minutes of a sale if I am on live. Otherwise I normally ship within six hours or the next morning at the latest.
I had one return eight years ago because the customer was either blind or did not look at the nine photos of the item. Once I got the knife back I sold it the next day for the same price.

As soon as the buyer pays and I get notification from eBay, I get the item ready and ship out within 1 or 2 days.
You won't get a payout until you ship the item

If you're asking whether sellers are normally waiting for the money to reach their account before shipping an item, speaking for myself I ship as soon as eBay sends notification that the buyer has paid. Heck, shipping is slow enough these days without the seller needlessly wasting extra days up front. When eBay says that the buyer has paid and it's time to ship, then ship.
You don't have to front the money or wait for the buyer's payment to reach your bank before shipping. Just set your Shipping form to draw the postage from the buyer's pending funds. You will find the setting for that at the lower left corner of the Shipping form.
The funds themselves are not "pending;" it's the transfer to your bank that's pending. eBay already has the buyer's payment, which is why you can use a portion of it to purchase the shipping on-line.

Why have you not sold anything, especially at a time of record sales. Again, sellers who question Managed Payments simply haven't built a cash reserve to counter the adaptation until the cash flow revenue grows exponentially so that any issues become minuscule.

I still ship the same or next day like always.
As far as returns, I haven't had one in awhile.
