SSN Issue

I don't know why eBay needs your full social security number I would be fine giving them my last 4 digits like other government sites or banks need.

My financial institutions and any government website I use that involves financial information require my complete social security number. I strongly doubt the veracity of your statement.

Re: SSN Issue

They need is so they can issue you a tax slip, the IRS REQUIRES they do so.

You can't issue a 1099 to somebody if you only have part of their SSN.

Re: SSN Issue

They need your SSN to file the proper forms with the IRS when/if applicable. It is required by the federal government and eBay is complying with the law.

Re: SSN Issue

The government and any banks you use already have your SS#. They just want last 4 to confirm you are who you say you are.

Re: SSN Issue

They have to send a 1099 to the IRS for tax reasons. But I don't like the fact that they are forcing you to use eBay for payments and want SSN and bank account information. Pay Pal got my SSN and a CREDIT CARD not my Checking account number. I don't trust anyone with all of the information just to sell $200 of stuff a year.  The IRS doesn't tax stuff you sold if it was yours and just want to clean out clutter. But , yes , you are required to pay income tax if you buy stuff and then flip it on eBay for a profit. Now it's considered income not just a garage sale.
