Sometimes when I place an order on ebay, I choose PayPal as my payment method. Usually it opens up PayPal to give a my options to pay on PayPal, but sometimes it doesn't open PayPal at all, even though I selected it as my payment option, and automatically charges my preferred CC on PayPal and doesn't let me choose what I want to pay with. This is really frustrating and usually only seems to do it when I am wanting to use a different card on PyaPal. Most recent happening was today and I used a Buy It Now feature on the listing and chose PayPal as my payment method. I need to figure a way out to keep this from happening, I called PayPal and they are clueless and don't seem to be of any help.

If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are not able to choose a specific payment method in your PayPal wallet but one is automatically selected for you, in that case go to your eBay Payments page in your eBay account and delete the entry for PayPal that appears there.

The next time you check out on eBay and choose PayPal, you should be sent to your PayPal wallet page and given a chance to pick a specific payment method.

I have had this problem for months now and couldn't find a solution. It never seems to open the PayPal wallet anymore and that is needed to use the Pay in 4 option. I found the same answer as above on Reddit to delete it and re-add it. I have done that now, but I haven't tried to buy anything yet to test it. It has messed up my finances by charging automatically before, so I'm nervous now. I've noticed that eBay Checkout now just says, "Confirm and Pay" instead of like "Checkout with PayPal" or "Continue to PayPal" (I swear it used to say something like that).

I have deleted that PayPal entry from my eBay Payments page and have not had the opportunity or found the necessity to add it back. After deleting that entry, when I check out a buy-it-now item and choose PayPal, I am sent to my PayPal wallet and I am able to select a specific payment method there.

I suppose if you wanted to use a credit card linked through your PayPal account as your default payment method on eBay for auctions or offers -- such as using an American Express card that is no longer accepted directly by eBay but that can be used through PayPal -- then you might be given a chance to add a new PayPal entry specifically for that case. But so far I have not needed to do that.
