Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

Evidently in a quiet effort to stamp out the use of PayPal to help insulate your financial data from sellers and hackers, as of 2024 you cannot add any PayPal account as a payment method.  My problem started when purchases on ebay began to be “auto paid” through my PayPal account.  The ebay agent told me to just delete and then re-add the PayPal account back.  So I deleted it only to find that you can only use a credit or debit card as a payment method.  They claim it is “faster”.  What a pile of **bleep**, so if this bothers you, complain, complain, complain to the highest levels of ebay

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

I have had the same problem for several weeks now and have had convos with 3 agents. Nothing fixed and I am frustrated with eBay to the limit of my patience. PayPal says it’s an eBay problem. Wish they’d get their sh*t together and give us the option link back to choose method of paying on PP. 🤨

If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are not able to choose a specific payment method in your PayPal wallet but one is selected for you, in that case go to your eBay Payments page in your eBay account and delete the entry for PayPal that appears there.

Sure, you can delete the payment type in underpayments in your account, but the issue is when you go to offer a bid on an item you can’t submit that bid until you have a payment type selected. This Is really wrong – as a buyer we have a right to choose the payment type that we want to use.

eBay is now allowing the seller to require a payment method to place a bid. For sellers that require that, you will have to provide a valid payment method that will accept a reversible payment hold for the full amount including shipping and taxes.

This Is really wrong – as a buyer we have a right to choose the payment type that we want to use.

eBay does give you the option to select a payment method for such payments, though it may not be particularly easy to switch between multiple payment methods quickly when bidding.

If you find yourself needing to often switch between, say a work credit card and a personal credit card where the consequences of using the wrong card are troublesome enough, it may be easier to have separate work and personal eBay accounts for each type of purchase.

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

Ok, so this is a feature that the seller can turn on - but it limits me as the buyer to be able to decide which credit card I want to use in PayPal.  I have two credit cards that have rewards points that I can use as toeards payment, but if I’ve already selected PayPal when submitting a bid it will automatically charge the default credit card in PayPal thereby not giving me the option to use my reward points!

Have you considered making one of those rewards cards your default payment method for bids or offers, either inside your PayPal account or inside your eBay account?

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

That's not the point. The point is that the customer is always right. I will say it again - the  customer is always right. They had a good system before, it allowed flexibility. You always got a Paypal dialogue which allowed selecting a payment source. I first noticed problems when they changed the Make Offer dialogue to force selection of a payment method ... before the offer has even been accepted! This is just wrong on so many levels. Now they are removing the Paypal selection dialogue altogether from checkouts. My sense is there must be an underlying financial (tax liability maybe?) or legislative reason for this subtle shift to incapacitate Paypal. Twice on the phone I have been told it was possible to select your default EBAY payment method from inside of Paypal. I even found this dialogue once, but I can't find it again and it seems like it has been removed. They are obviously obfuscating it. Now its time for millions of Ebay & Paypal users to collectively figure out an alternative and jump ship. Market pressure is the only way to send a message to these people that they'll hear!

Sellers are eBay's customers, too. Different customers may have different ideas about how things should work, and not all of them can get what they want when those ideas are in direct conflict.

Now they are removing the Paypal selection dialogue altogether from checkouts.

If you want to get that selection back, there are instructions in this thread for doing so, at least for buy-it-now items and auctions or offers where the seller does not require a payment method being specified in advance.

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

That's what I need to do.  No more purchases, despite being a buyer with 100% rating with purchases in the thousands since 2000.  Ebay doesn't want my business?  Fine.  Sounds like their  C-Suite is a bunch of idiots.

What an utter waste of time.  To quote Churchill:

"Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms"

Substitute "eBay" and "Online selling platforms"

Thank you for my morning chuckle.  This is eBay we are talking about, not the real world, although the concept of the customer always being right is fading there as well.

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

I am 100% i ageeememt its unacceptable period. I will not ever make any pursmcgases online anywhere where buyers can see my personal card info. I only ever use paypal and they don't get direct access to my credit card info or O won't use their servuces3at all. Its clear whst EBay is up to here tryung forcefully get personal info to sell and mske profits off and borders on illegal.  last i checked where i live actually all sellers are required by Massachusetts consumer rights law to accept paypal and allow for inrevealed privacy  card info. The Action is illegal at least where I reside.

Re: Payment using PayPal no longer allowed

I hate to burst your bubble but every time (as of late Jul) I make an offer, my PayPal account is auto added and I get an email:

"You authorize eBay to link your PayPal account to your eBay account and use it to collect payment from you for items you offer to buy or win at auction on eBay"

"For your records, we've included a copy of the payment authorization:"

NO COPY OF AUTHORIZATION IS ATTACHED!

I have deleted my PayPal account via https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list but it reappears whenever I make a payment.

ALSO: Once I make a payment, future payments are auto paid without the benefit of my having to log into PayPal - DANGEROUS!

I have complained to eBay - they don't care.
