Payment dispute?? What's up with this??

Just want to know if any seller has ever ran into this.

I made a sale on 8-22-2020. Item shipped on 8-22-2020. Item was delivered 8-24-2020. Buyer left positive feed back. The Managed Payment pending funds were sent to my bank. All is good-----until today!!

This morning I receive a message from ebay stating: We’re writing to let you know that a payment dispute was filed outside of eBay for an order that was placed by xxxxx on August 22, 2020. This dispute was filed because the buyer had an issue with the transaction payment. The disputed amount is $44.95.

What's ebay going to do?

Any idea what is going on with this satisfied buyer, 31 days after he placed his order??

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Payment dispute?? What's up with this??

@grasscarp, it's possible that the buyer did not recognize the transaction in his PayPal account becuase for Managed Payments transactions, PayPal doesn't show any details about the item or the seller, it just says it was an eBay purchase.

It would probably be worthwhile to reach out to the buyer, and ask if there was a problem with the transaction. Remind them about what the item was, and that the buyer left feedback for it.

Another possibility is that the buyer used a stolen credit card, or a card they did not have authority to use to make the transaction, and now the card owner has become aware of it when they received their statement. But, I would start with the first assumption.

it is just ebay wanting your money a little longer ! Basically a famous ebay glitch only now you will see it happen with your funds since they are handling the money for sellers !!! I am glad I chose not to sign up ! Ebay cannot get any of the long time glitches fixed yet they threw another log in the fire and this time it will be with sellers funds ! Good luck to you !

Yes, This did happen to me. What happened the BUYER was balancing their books, they saw a payment the did not recognize. So they took action. After they looked into it they figured out they made a mistake and notified bank etc.

They paid part by paypal and part with credit card.

Anyway, I contacted the buyer, he apologized for the issue and stated he hated the new eBay payment procedure. Stated it caused confusion. I supplied eBay with tracking and that it was delivered.

Anyway, went through the process and all was fine in the end. I got my money, took a day or so to clear up.

I suspect all will be well with your deal.

The customer stated there was nothing that identified ME on his bill which lead to confusion in his mind.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. You state that you chose not to sign up. Well, I for one had no choice if I wanted to make new listings. Once the required magic date give by ebay is past, no new listings are allowed.

Scammedy scam, happens a lot. Add tracking as delivered, and maybe add customer review to message. Report buyer to eBay if possible.

yes they restricted me from new listings !! I would like to list again and ebay is losing out from not letting me but I will not succumb to them forcing me to sign up for this nonsense ! I know many will not continue and do have hopes ebay will revise this forced issue but I will not hold my breath ! Basically ebay by doing this has taken your business and made it their own !! Pay pal never had glitches and ebay is becoming famous for them and yet they want to controll the sellers funds ?? I will firmly stand my ground ! Good luck to you !

I am sure that ebay has calculated the cost from loosing current sellers over the Managed Payments. They probably have some "genius" saying that there are so many new sellers coming to ebay who do not know how it used to be, that the few current sellers leaving ebay will not be missed in the near future. Thanks again..

You are probably going to be the victim of legalized theft.  Prior to managed payments Paypal would cover you under thier Seller Protection.  Not Ebay.  If you lose you lose the funds as well as a 20.00 fee to ebay.  So the buyer steals from you and so does ebay.  A complete disgrace because I have the same situation.  Ebay knows item was delivered and buyer had no complaint with item.  then comes the outside ebay dispute.  How ebay can not cover this given you know you followed their rules and are being victimized is a disgrace.  And to take 20.00 for theor troubles is BULL.

No; PP does NOT cover you. I had customer that got their CC stolen (only found out details much after the fact) so he reported it. CC puts a 'charge back' on everything the past 60 days. I sold him and he received couple months before the chargeback.

PP has no control over CC chargebacks- all they can do is provide the CC co. the tracking number. If CC co. says 'too bad' they have to return the money and PP takes from you, the seller.

So...let's not get on a 'ebay MP this and that' band wagon..as charge backs happen in all walks of CC life.

Payment dispute?? What's up with this??

I am currently having a $1,200 purse being stole from me in this way. 3 eBay reps agreed the buyer received the item that was pictured in my listing (Buyer provided a photo.) They would have lost the return request for "not as described" so they filed a with their card company (which automatically closed the return) . So even though eBay agreed buyer received correct item I am going to lose a 1,200 purse, the $80 international shipping cost + 20.00. eBay is an accomplice in mail fraud. This should be illegal!

Paypal covered me everytime tracking showed delivered so you shouldn't tell me what didn't happen in my reality.  Payment was made through PAypal, tracking provied, paypal covered.

PayPal covered me every time, as well. Several times. I've never paid a penny out of pocket due to a chargeback through PayPal.
