Payment Dispute

So, this morning a guy bought a 25 dollar item from us. Late afternoon, as soon as he saw we printed the label, he opened a payment dispute. We haven't actually shipped the item yet, just printed the label, so if I cancel the order, will the dispute go away? I called Ebay, to see if we could just close the dispute, but they told me in order to win the case I had to ship the item. I just want to give the guy his money back without having to pay eBay a dispute fee. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is any way of avoiding the dispute charge from eBay, but that's your least concern. I don't see why you would ship this out since the buyer is basically telling you they don't want it now. You can cancel the transaction and void the label as it wasn't used. When you cancel the transaction the buyer will be fully refunded automatically so you won't owe them anything after that. You can then prove that you refunded the buyer in full so that should resolve the matter. You may still get that $20 fee from eBay as it is automatic, but you can fight for that afterwards. Make sure you block this buyer as well.

There is no 'dispute' fee unless the buyer opened a case with his Credit Card company which is pretty hard to do on a transaction that hasn't even hit the CC company yet...but

Either way, cancel the order and refund. Void the label in the 'shipping' labels (just try to print another one and at the top it will say "you already printed one; go to 'printing' area here" (and click blue word). Then you find that order with it's label (probably first one on top) and void it. It will take about 3 weeks for you to get the $ back from the shipping company ($ will come from ebay)

@xxsum1xx

What kind of dispute did they open?

INR or INAD?

I would cancel as buyer requested and take a screen shot showing the order was canceled and the buyer was refunded.

If it's an INAD, upload the screen shot to the case.

Have a great day.

It's neither. It says the buyer opened the dispute bc "the seller used a different payment method than the buyers preferred method" which literally has nothing to do with us. So I'm guessing he went through his credit card company.

We never planned to ship it out, because if this dude was legit he would have just asked to cancel the order. He's obviously trying to get free stuff. But it just annoyed me how the person I talked to from eBay told me my only option was to ship the item.  Thank you for the advice.

Cancel the order as "problem with buyers address".  That buyer is a problem and he is at that address so, there IS a problem with that address.

Be sure to add the buyer to your blocked bidders list.

Many of us have learned that CS is not the best place to receive correct information about what to do with an eBay transaction.

You will probably discover, over time, that these Boards will be your source for the most accurate answers to questions because just about every single thing that can happen to a buyer or seller has probably been discussed here.
