No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

When making an offer, using the buy it now, and even some auctions I've lost the ability to select what card I want to charge through PayPal...   Sometimes when I check out with my cart the PayPal window opens and I can select one of my various saved payment methods...  If I put an offer in I could select PayPal and hit submit...  Is there a setting that can be changed to get this back?

To be clear I'm able to pick one of a few payment options like PayPal a credit card or a bank account but it used to be that if I chose PayPal it would load my entire PayPal wallet and I can select an individually saved method through them...  Now it just charges one of them randomly does anyone know why? I have to assume this is an eBay issue because other websites when I check out with PayPal it always prompts me for what card or account I would like to charge.

This is a huge issue for me because I purchased items for multiple people and I have their cards authorized on my PayPal account so that I can get parts shipped in without having to worry about payment and then I just issue an invoice later for labor.

Thank you!  I spent a ton of time trying to find the answer on PayPal's end with no luck.  Super frustrating after having the choice at checkout available for years!

You are very welcome!

Yes, the changes in the checkout process are not well explained -- particularly when it comes to auctions an offers where a payment method is required to be specified in advance.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

Hate this feature "to choose your payment method" when making an offer to the seller. It does not give opportunity to use Paypal options to split payment between 2 cards or use payment by installments. This is totally bad idea which making trouble for buyers. I understand that seller wants to be paid immediately, but if buyer does not pay in time, seller losses nothing, just relists item. But if I make an offer and ebay charges me without my choice how to pay, I can be in trouble, because my card maybe exceed limit, because I cannot control charges. I cannot split charges, I cannot pay by Paypal credit. Rediculous. Every time I make an offer I must delete my payment method, otherwise, I will be charged without my consent. Very interesting, who get this bad idea to create this feature, especially, with no any chance to use it or refuse it.  Kind of violation of my freedom of choice.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

I've been digging for DAYS trying to figure this crap out. It all started when I was trying to bid on one of those auctions where the seller REQUIRES auto payment. I got a message stating that I had to "link my paypal account to ebay" to bid and ever since, all payments go through instantly and automatically with 1 click and it goes to whatever payment method is selected. I honestly worry about it deducting directly from my bank account which may or may not have sufficient funds. Whoever came up with this mess should be ashamed! I've been an ebay member for like 20 years. This could run alot of people off. Who wants to be charged instantly with one click?!?! Well... some might but it sure as hell isn't me and I'm guessing most of the posters in this thread. I'm going to try the method from eburtonlabs and if it works great, if not I may have to retire ebay.

If you mean that when you check out of eBay and select PayPal, you are not able to choose a specific payment method in your PayPal wallet but one is automatically selected for you, in that case go to your eBay Payments page in your eBay account and delete the entry for PayPal that appears there.

https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list

The next time you check out on eBay and choose PayPal, you should be sent to your PayPal wallet page and given a chance to pick a specific payment method.

Thank you. I've already did that and will see if it works upon my next purchase. It seems to have worked for everyone else so I really appreciate it.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

I don't think it worked because I just made an offer to a seller and it made me log into paypal and select my payment source before I could make the offer. Now I am waiting to see if it's accepted. I assume if it's accepted my account will instantly be charged. I don't know if It's something with my account or something that ebay is doing now??? The problem with all of this is that in order to test the system you have to buy something.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

eBay now lets sellers specify whether a payment method is required in advance for a bid or an offer. Not all sellers do so, however.

If you use PayPal as your default payment source for offers and auctions, that may add that PayPal payment method entry back to your eBay wallet; in that case you may have to delete it again if you want to choose a different payment source through PayPal for a buy-it-now purchase.

I do not use PayPal as my default payment source for offers and auctions, so this is not an issue for me.

Depending on how many offers you make and how many auctions you bid on compared to how many buy-it-now purchases you make, you may want to consider using a credit card as the default payment source for auctions and offers so you do not need to delete that PayPal entry after you place a bid or make an offer.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

Ok so ebay really did make those changes. So if a member uses Paypal as their preferred payment method then this will be a constant source of aggravation having to go in and delete it every time you bid or make an offer if you wish to change up your payment source(within paypal) on the fly. I already have my credit card selected as my payment source within paypal so I'm not sure how using a card without paypal would simplify matters? I guess I could select my card as my ebay preferred payment method then have paypal as a secondary source with my bank account selected within paypal.

Re: No longer able to select specific card for purchase?

I had a supervisor a few months ago tell me to do exactly what you said to alleviate that problem (of not being able to get to your entire PayPal wallet and choose what credit card or pay in four) by going to PayPal and doing what you said where you would manually go to PayPal (wallet) or automatically go to the wallet and it worked fine, but I just talked to eBay now in December 2024 and a few weeks ago they changed their policy across the board they said where now everything is automatic payment and if you choose PayPal as automatic payment it doesn't go to the wallet it goes to the first card listed or the preferred card not the entire wallet It no longer lets you choose.. I do not know that that is able to be fixed and eBay doesn't seem to think so either if anybody here knows if it's still working in December after eBay's recent update a few weeks ago to delete automatic payment to PayPal first card on file and be able to choose from PayPal wallet. It appears when I just talked to eBay that the update they made a few weeks ago is what caused this and it does not seem to have an answer. No matter what I do I cannot get to the wallet It will just charge whatever first card is on file and it does not let you pick Thank you to anybody who has any further information but I think pretty much that it won't take us to the wallet at a now. If so I will not able to use eBay because I want to choose from the wallet. It is an eBay problem not PayPal because I do not have the problem on Etsy or other platforms snd the agent told me it is due to the recent update in December or actually November a few weeks ago 2024

Has anybody found a workaround now December 2024,  there was a workaround up until now when they did the recent update. Thanks

When I check out of eBay and choose PayPal, I am still directed to my PayPal Wallet, and I can still choose which payment source to use there -- every time I check out.

If you have PayPal saved as your default payment method for offers or auctions, try deleting that PayPal entry in your eBay Payments page again, then choose a different payment method for offers and auctions next time.
