Managed Payments - Why do they take so long?

Ok I'll admit up front I hate Managed Payments.  I'm not a huge seller so I didn't sign up for Managed Payments until this year (2021).  Once I sold my first item under Managed Payments I waited and waited for my money.  When I finally got it, I realized that it wasn't my bank holding up the process but that Ebay took 4 days from time of sale to time they sent the money.  Why does it take Ebay 4 days to send your payment out?  Once it hit my credit union, I had it in 24 hours.  This causes issues for us small sellers.  Not to mention, we have to ship the item with our own money first since we haven't received our payout.  This whole process is devastating to all the small sellers on EBay but my guess would be that they don't care one way or the other.

Maybe one of these days someone will come up with a better way to sell online.

In my opinion they are investing the money to bulk up their pig mask fund 🐷

Yep... it is what it is. I see that my buyer's payment is my bank deposit in 4 business days.

I can address the out-of-pocket shipping... you can change your preference (at the bottom of the label page) from 'PayPal' to 'Pending' payouts. Another workaround is to attach a credit card to your PayPal wallet and select it as your Preferred method while shopping online.

It takes a couple days to process the payment, before Ebay even has the funds.

Once they have the funds, they send them to your checking account on the schedule you chose, daily or weekly.

The time it takes to reach your checking account, depends on when the buyer pays, how long it takes to process the payment, how long it takes to reach your checking account once they are sent, and the schedule you chose.

If the buyer pays on Thursday or Friday, the funds wont be available until Monday or Tuesday.

Have a great day.

Re: Managed Payments - Why do they take so long?

It never took this long with Paypal. So there is no excuse for it to take this long with eBay. Seriously, five days to just get in the funds to eBay for a $10 item, no excuse. If they are allowing buyers to use payments that are suspect, then maybe eBay needs to fix that. Instead of causing huge ongoing problems for sellers.

If this was a one time issue, then fine, it's someone else's fault. But this has been ongoing for months. I'm not putting anything new on eBay, instead like everyone else, listing elsewhere. eBay broke this and refuses to fix it.

I already changed my listings to 10 days for shipping, which of course lowers the number of sales I get. But being a long time small seller, I can't afford to pay shipping for all the items without having received payment. I don't know of many businesses that do that. The sole reason I had  make this change is because eBay is not processing payments in a timely manner. Once the payment is processed, my credit union gets the money the next day. The problem is not my credit union. It is eBay.

And it's really unfair of eBay to treat sellers like this. Seriously, after 20 years, this is the worst it's ever been on this site.

Re: Managed Payments - Why do they take so long?

Just want to point out that it never took a couple days for Paypal to get the funds, funds were always there right away. Amazon also never had this problem. When I sold on there, money was available quickly, not days later. Right now it's day five for their processing payments for some items that sold. Not five days for sending it to my credit union, five days since the customer paid for the items.

eBay needs to fix this problem. The current situation is untenable. Sellers are suffering because eBay is failing to fix this problem.

There is an option where you can have the shipping fees deducted from the total purchase amount including what the customer payed for shipping.

I am a longtime seller and a longtime user of managed payments ( since the beginning) the best comment ”It is what is”

I have seen many glitches including 8 business days, no processing for well over a week on 100+ orders,   Added incorrect fees for services you have not used,  Like charges for Bold listings caused by an eBay tech glitch. Managed payments can be a nightmare…the good news is you can change your shipping to 5 days and wait until a buyer’s payment  clears before shipping. The credit card industry  is to blame not eBay. Banks are greedy and often they do not actually process payments in a timely manner.  If you have used cards in business you already may know this.  Holding money can make a bank a lot if the total they hold is a huge amount. Banks invest your money and make interest at a rate of multiples of what they give back to customers. The longer they hold funds the more they can make. There aught to be better laws but until the public screams loud enough they won’t get by the lobbyists the banks have in Congress. Payouts should be a mandatory 24 hours. The banks should be fined or punished. The whole idea of “ business days” was created by Greedy bakers. Every day business is conducted everywhere worldwide. We as people need to go before Congress and enact laws eliminating the use of Business days.  In this lies your problem.

The internet sales industry is so big that more competition will naturally occur.  Another product I am waiting to see is an "off the shelf"  software program that lets Sellers create their own web site for selling opposed to using a larger venue.

I miss them using PayPal! It's ridiculous. My payments should be posted daily and they are taking over 2 weeks.
