So now I am a proud member of the those "required" to use the services of eBay's managed payments. Trying to figure out the rhythm of it and how it all interacts - just in time for ALSO trying to power list and sell during holidays - Thanks ebay (NOT)! Anywho…...Why are "funds pending" in managed payments? Is it a result of the way a buyer paid? Are the "pending funds" real money? Can I safely ship out an item before the funds become "available funds" and be assured those "pending funds" will actually ever be received and sent to my bank account? Or do I need to wait until the "pending funds" are "available funds" before shipping?
With paypal, if there was a payment issue, they specifically told you to wait to ship until they notified it was OK to ship and most of the time paypal funds were immediately available.
I shipped something yesterday and the funds for that item are still in the "processing/pending" category.
I like to ship quickly when I can, but am rethinking doing this. Now I am thinking I need to wait until the funds are actually "Available" before I print labels and ship.
Will appreciate any explanation - I have not found one yet.

I'm not in Managed Payments, but I assume the seller hub tells when it is okay to ship, much like it does for PayPal payments.

@revival_rose paypal fronted a buyers payment before it cleared the funding source. They spoiled us, it was sure nice while it lasted.
You are just as safe shipping now when eBay says its time to ship as you were with paypal.
I am on weekly payouts and any cleared funds are released on Tuesdays and in my checking on Wednesday.

If it says awaiting shipping in "manage orders" eBay has confirmed the payment. It is the same as the old PP "OK to ship".

According to eBay, pending funds have cleared (in other words, the payment is confirmed), and it's okay to ship the item to your buyer.
I've been in Managed Payments for about 2 weeks. So far, it's been working as advertised. The pending funds become "available" after a couple of days, and you can buy labels on eBay from your pending or available funds. I've continued with one-day shipping and have had no issues. In terms of payouts, the first weekly payout went to my bank on the scheduled day and was posted to my account in about 24 hours. Pleasantly surprised!
Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

And this is supposedly BETTER for the seller?! With Paypal when a buyer paid if we wanted the money immediately we could pay 1% and have our money in seconds . Or we could transfer and have it free the next day. All this amounts to is ebay has created a way to have millions of dollars of floating operating capital without paying any interest. As usual--every time ebay makes a new decision the seller suffers. It has always been that way! But dont forget--now we can get investment loans to purchase inventory. Now we can borrow our own money with interest. What a deal!

Overall it is not better for the "seller". It is better for eBay. The goal for any business is to make things better for the business.
eBay is not "floating capital". eBay (Adyen) is "processing" payments that are, "in the real world", not available instantaneously. eBay chooses not to "front" the funds the way PP did. The gas station, and Wally do not refuse to allow me to leave the premises because they do not yet have payment "in hand".
Check your CC statements online, and note how some payments are still pending 2+ days after you made your purchase for gas, or food. Did I like having my funds instantly? Sure, but life doesn't always revolve around me.
I still remember the days when I waited days for a USPS money order, or cash to arrive in an envelope. Of course I was not expected to ship the item, but the wait for payment was always longer than the delay of a "confirmed" buyer MP payment hitting my CU checking account.
Instant gratification may be needed for some sellers, but my "business model" functions acceptably with MP. YMMV

Because something doesn't work the way you want it to work doesn't mean it is a "scam". It just means it does not work the way you would prefer. I feel that too.
Not sure what you expect the elected officials can do about this as they don't control this. MP isn't doing anything that is illegal. They are processing as shown in Post #2 on this thread.
But with that said, I really respect the desire to stay with PP. I certainly would too, but here we are and this is what we have to deal with if we want to continue to sell on this site. And don't think the grass is greener somewhere else. The similar sites to Ebay have very similar payment processes as MP does except their payout times are usually longer.
I've been in MP now for about 3 months. I do weekly payments. The transfers are sent out every Tuesday morning and I have the money in my bank before noon the next day. It works very well for me so I'm adjusting. I know that those that want daily deposits are struggling because of MPs policy of processing on Business Days only.
