Learn from my mistake..

Earlier today I bought 3 gift cards of larger sums to purchase a computer. When going to use these, my account was frozen, and after uploading endless documentation to customer support, I'm told to wait a week to (maybe) have it unfrozen. Nothing short of theft. Just a fair warning, if you can't afford to lose it, don't keep it on this site. This will be my last EBay transaction after being a buyer/seller for years. I hate to be THAT guy, but this is inexcusable.

I don’t get why did you need to buy gift cards? You can you purchase with debit cards,  PayPal or credit cards.

There's many reasons why someone would or should. That's a different answer for everyone.

Are you sure that you paid through Ebay?  Or did you pay a seller off ebay?  I never heard of gift cards being frozen by ebay.

This is a new account.  Was your last account suspended by Ebay?  If yes, maybe that is why this account is frozen. I predict that this account will also be kicked off ebay. Hopefully, you get your money back quickly.

Not everyone has a job or good credit or a bank account or a social security number.  Some people buy gift cards to hide the transaction from their spouses/ girlfriends.   They can say that they bought the gift card for someone and not towards the purchase of a video game or another purse.

Did the OP buy these with cash in a store? Otherwise, they would've needed some type of debit/cc to purchase them 'online'....

@jabl_455730   Where did you buy these gift cards and were they 'Visa's' or 'Ebay Gift' or? Makes a BIG difference....

Scroll down to 'Gift card restrictions'. Were you applying any other promotions, coupons, etc.?

As you presented it, I don't see why you're going through what you're going through. Bummer...

I hope you didn't  call customer support from a number you got off of the internet or found on a Google search for eBay's customer support number.

The OP account is brand new (as of Jan. 24). 

And the @1mtrade account that has been "a buyer/seller for years" was opened in Sept, 2022 - just 4 months ago.

It’s understood it’s a relatively green account for a bigger transaction, but after supplying documents it takes 7 days? Not to mention it’s a gift card. They’re paid. Credit card companies are less worried. It’s honestly like they’re moving towards not wanting to sell anything. More restrictions. Harder to pay. Less privacy. All bad news.
