Wondering the rational of ebay to now force sellers to take their money offsite by forcing us only to receive funds in a checking account.
Managed Payments has basically taken any remaining benefits of using ebay and thrown them away....
1. for sellers -have to wait days for payout and MP system is overwhelmingly complicated and non transparent and the simplified fee structure sneakily charges a full ebay fvf of 12.55% on the sales tax as well as the shipping cost instead of PayPal's processing fee of 2.9%, making the majority of transactions cost more with MP than previously...... and there is no excitement or joy in selling anymore- structured just like a job that you have to wait to get paid for instead of instant payment that sellers turn around and buy with onsite. People who chose to own their own business now feel as if they work for ebay but without the benefits.......
2. for buyers- My wife does not even consider ebay for purchases anymore- why?, because the funds from what she sells on Mercari stays there (unless you choose to transfer whenever you want), so that money becomes her guilty free fun money! She will even pay more for items just because she has an excess of money on the site!!!!!! Now she list more there than on ebay to keep the cycle going.... see the pattern ebay? She just made another sale on Mercari and she made and exclamation- YES! sale Mercari. There is excitement around selling there now- what used to be ebay before all of this MP debacle. In the last 2 weeks she has bought 2 photo printers, numerous clothing items, flee stuff for our cat, photo paper, craft supplies, professional colored pencils, and video games for the playstation, and that is just off the top of my head.
We made ZERO purchases on ebay. Managed payment forces all seller proceeds to a checking account that mortgages, electric bills, food, car payments, credit card bills, etc are all paid from- Ebay has tied the experience to the monotony of paying bills instead of the excitement of selling and buying and that is what motivates people!
BTW- she just helped a friend set up a Mercari account today- she told her that ebay is too complicated to list on with all the unrelated item specifics that they force you to waste time putting in and does NOTHING for the search results or sales.........
I tend to agree- since the push for item specifics and catalog based search- pretty much everyone has seen the decline of relevancy in ebay search and sales have been on a stead decline- if they helped- wouldn't sales be improving? just common sense in my book.

@siamjane8 the sad thing is that what you mentioned isn't a new concept nor one that eBay is unfamiliar with. It was actually a big part of the positive PR around eBay acquiring PayPal back in the day.
Sellers receiving money in their PayPal accounts would often turn around and use their PayPal balance to buy more stuff on eBay. Like you said, there seems to be a psychological effect where there is less friction or "guilt" in spending that money vs money from your actual bank account or credit card.
Past eBay executives commonly referred to it as a "flywheel effect" because they understood that enabling the use of sales proceeds for purchases drove more sales velocity on the site.
Of the many things that blow my mind about the handling of the entire Managed Payments transition, eBay missing out on this key opportunity is one of the biggest.

So why don't you take your listing down and sell elsewhere then if eBay is so bad?

I agree ! A horrible change on Ebay`s end ! With Pay Pal , payments were instant and I could ship immediately. Now we as sellers have to wait until Ebay sees fit to deposit the buyers payment ( several days or more ) and the buyers have to wait longer to receive their purchase. I have a feeling many customers will be lost over this. Smooth move Ebay !

James, I will bet you, eventually, he will. It is a tough decision to make. I know, I made it. In 2 days I am done selling after 21 years. For me, the hassle just was not worth it.

Poor babies. Paypal is dead to eBay for selling, at Paypal's choice. Get over it.

You might loose your customers if you wait that long to ship.
I pay for shipping using the pending funds and ship out the same or next day as always.

Businesses have ALWAYS had to wait for the Credit Card Processor to put the $ in their Bank Accounts (B&M Stores)
Mercari Sales $ stay in your Mercari Account so you can only use it to purchase from Mercari? Otherwise you have to transfer the $ to your bank to pay bills or purchase elsewhere?

I wasnt really talking about the extra time it takes to get our money in MP. That is clearly not as good a service as paypal provided its customers and at a cheaper overall price. Its not a deal breaker for me but it is a level below what paypal provided. Nothing reall to dispute there and Corvettesstainless I couldnt car less about some other CC company paying a brick and mortar store.... Paypal was a better option than MP. end of story.
As far as why I sell here- its because I invested in ebay with my store and products for many years.
I certainly am listing on other platforms now as well but I would prefer if ebay would just get its act together and reinvest in itself instead of following the path of just adding more fees to be solvent instead of focusing on platform stability and growth. The point of the topic to to show how and why people are leaving ebay because ebay execs cant seem to figure it out for some reason even though it is obvious to everyone else.

The eBay staff working in the mismanaged payment system does not even understand the managed payment system.
They obfuscate the answers to basic questions to hide it, but I've been given critical misinformation several times. No malicious intent or incompetence on their end, it is their corporate masters that created the situation.
It also seems the programmers who designed the new site overhaul made decisions of their own without consulting anyone, which is causing horrendous glitches. People getting charged $200+ for shipping labels instead of $20. Negative feedback that doesn't violate rules being automatically deleted. Shipping charges that were waved being re-applied. Being unable to correct bank account information. Etc.
Oh and my favorite, a scam buyer that no one can report for abuses due a glitch that had to be manually corrected on the back-end.

wow. What an original concept. Really adds something to the conversation. Perhaps they have a lot of listings that cost them nothing they just leave up since they’re good til cancelled? If people who post in here are so simple why do you pretend to answer their simple questions?

They want the funds now, not in a couple of days. And it takes way more than a couple. Some sales take five days or more to process before they are available to transfer. I sold on a Thursday. Didn’t get that money til next Wednesday and that’s with “daily payouts”

Quite true! And now all gone!
Henry Ford understood it too, paying his workers enough so that they could buy the cars that they were building!
