Running my own business is rewarding but time consuming. Planning for retirement takes even more time. I just had an idea today: Wouldn't it be cool if eBay had an optional retirement plan for sellers? Sellers could opt to contribute a percentage of their sales directly to an IRA or something like that! Even better: eBay would match the contributions up to a certain point. It would be automatic via Managed Payments or something, and it would act just like a regular IRA or 401k at any other job. This would make me less likely to sell on other platforms, as I would try to maximize my IRA contributions on eBay. It seems like a win-win for both parties. Obviously I could just contribute to an offsite IRA, but I would love the convenience of automatically contributing from my sales without thinking about it (plus if eBay could do some kind of company match, even if it's small, that would be a huge incentive!). I realize something like this is probably much more difficult to implement than it sounds. But I just wanted to get my idea out there! 😀 Happy eBaying, everyone!

I wouldn't trust it. Might be something like the Enron 401(k)?

You could set up your one system.
Safer fer sure.

Sellers are not employees of eBay so that is not possible.

The idea of trusting eBay with my retirement savings is absolutely hilarious. You can set up a retirement account at any number of places that allow you to invest easily and cheaply.
And a "company match" is a tax writeoff for companies when they contribute to their employees' funds. eBay sellers are not employees, i.e. no tax writeoff.

"I wouldn't trust it. Might be something like the Enron 401(k)?"~~~~ Do you mean ebay as Enron? There it is! Trust in ebay is totally shot. That simple statement says it all. True, but...wow...

Exactly. Everyone knows that eBay is out to get them.
