23 Years ago, a friend showed me this new website called Ebay. I was immediately hooked. I began buying and selling within weeks.
Back then, selling was a hassle because getting paid was a hassle. Then came Paypal.
In my opinion, Paypal was the magic sauce that made Ebay work.
I sold on and off for the last 23 years. I retired, and planned on using Ebay as a source of income in my retirement.
Over the recent years, my opinion of Ebay began to decline big time.
A couple of years ago, they instituted their GOOD TILL CANCELLED for Buy It Now listings. I sold collectables and that policy KILLED my sales. I tried to get the policy changed, but Ebay didn't care. They were MANAGING my sales, and it killed me.
A couple of months ago, I was notified I was being forced into Managed Payments. I read about the program, and didn't see any benefit for ME.
I spoke with several dedicated Managed Payments reps, and again, there was no benefit for me as a seller. I clearly told every rep that the day Ebay forced MP on me was the day I would leave Ebay.
I begged to postpone to a later time. Covid19 is rampant, and now isn't the time to add insult to injury. They didn't care.
That day was Sept. 1.
So, as I sit here, a trusted friend I've had for 23 years is gone. I removed all my listings, I'm no longer selling on Ebay.
Now, I understand Ebay could care less about me. That's become obvious over the last several years.
If 10, or 100, or 1000 sellers leave, Ebay won't care. BUT, if 10,000 or 100,000 leave, at some point, Ebay HAS to care.
I made my statement by leaving, and telling Ebay why I left. If you feel as I do, make your own statement. If Ebay is going to force sellers to choose MP, it should be better then Paypal.

My husband, who just started selling as PopcakePop, and I agree 100% with you. We have been selling since 2007. We used to resell vintage, and in 2015, we saw a substantial decline in traffic to our listings. In our retirement now, we diversified and both of us have listings. But when we saw you must ship before the funds are in your possession, that did it. AND WE ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO GIVE EBAY OUR CHECKING ACCOUNT NUMBER.
Ebay is aware but probably doesn’t care. At one time, big retailers included Sears, JCPenney, KMart and Zayres and all of them have “bit the dust”. Competition is a healthy thing in business. When a company thinks they have control of the market and all sales, their downfall is imminent. We are shutting down sales this month. And PopcakePop just went to close his account and there is no option given that Managed Payment is the reason. Of course, Ebay doesn’t care.

Ebay has been charging a FVF on shipping for over 10 years.
If you print your shipping labels from Ebay, if you want, you can have the costs funded by your MP account if you want so that you are not out of pocket for the shipping costs. This is an option we all have if you care to use it.

Yet they are onboarding sellers from other countries. Canada and Germany come to mind.
I'm sure there are countries they have to meet certain legal requirements of that country, so some may be slowed down while they resolve that, but it is certainly not only US sellers getting onboarded currently.

Are you kidding me? When paypal came people were **bleep**ing more than they are now about managed payments.

I'm stopping my sales on E-bay too. They also would not listen when their software techs started messing up the interactive sales pages and made them worse. I sometimes couldn't even find all my sales items.

I get where you are coming from. I quit selling on EBay a few years ago as sales dropped. No biggie deal. I went to another means of selling and am doing very well.
I don’t like the idea that MP has you wait sometimes what, 5 days to receive payment, it your bank will also take another 3-5 days to clear that deposit. So, using PayPal I had my money immediatelt when item was paid for and now EBay wants me to wait possibly 10 days for my money plus mail items before receiving all of my money??? Buyers don’t want to have to wait 5+ days for an item to get mailed. I always mailed items within 24 hours.
They raised their fees on top of all this other **bleep**.
I still buy on EBay, tend to go to Amazon or even Etsy to buy also.
Maybe one day EBay will get back to what they used to be good at.

If you no longer sell on Ebay and haven't for a few years, why are you here complaining about a program that has no effect on you?
If your bank is taking 3-5 days to clear an ACH transfer, you really need to take that up with your bank as it is both unnecessary and certainly unacceptable. BTW, MP nor Ebay controls the policies of any bank. So like I said if you are having this problem it is between you and your bank.
The overall fees of MP is pretty much a neutral change for most sellers. The hardest hit on fees would be those that used the Micro Payments program in PP as MP doesn't have such a program. But most sellers will not experience an increase in their monthly fees.
Amazon has their own money processing program and has had for years. Etsy uses the same money processor as Ebay does and their payment process is nearly exactly like Ebay's. However both Amazon and Etsy REQUIRE you ship to your buyer before they will release money into your available for transfer.
Do you really want to discuss and get into the weeds of this program?

mp payout = they (ebay) get the interest rate on YOUR money before they decide to deposit the monies into your account..
easier fee system = you mean more squeezing of "extra' costs like paying an extra fees on tax and postage?..
i do not trust them with my banking information as they have been hacked in the past
i cancelled all my items that were on sale on ebay.. i am done with this **bleep** ..

Ebay has repeatedly told us they do not earn interest on our money. So if you believe they are lying, please provide us with information to prove this.
We have had to pay FVFs on shipping for over 10 years on Ebay. It has NOTHING to do with MP.
Yep, they were hacked once in 2014. And because their encryption of our sensitive information the hackers were NOT able to access any of our financial information. So that should make you feel better about this potential issue. Their security prevented them from accessing the info.
And that is your right. I wish you well wherever you go but there is no need to try and sling mud on your way out.
