How many casual sellers will not sign up for managed payments and will stop selling

I sometimes help friends and people who ask If I will help them setup  selling on ebay. Some that sell  maybe $1000 a year I have setup asked me this week  about ebay making them go to Manged payments and 2 said flat out I will not give ebay access to a bank account.and have stopped selling.  How many small sellers will ebay lose  and is that there intent  to weed out the vary small sellers?

I don't think ebay cares how many small sellers they lose.   With a reported 20 million sellers now, ebay could probably lose 5 million and never even notice they were gone.   I'm sure ebay's thinking is that as long as the buyers are here, losing some sellers won't matter as those buyers will just find the same items from a different seller.

@gregmm

I'm sure there are a lot of sellers that won't sign up and leave, at least they say they will.

The ones that leave, there will be more to replace them.

I don't have a problem with MP and I have to much stuff to get rid of so I'm going to be sticking around awhile.

Have a great day.

I am thinking casual sellers many will not be willing to deal with it  and give access to a bank account that ebay can pull from when needed and new smaller sellers mite feel the same

I believe their intent was to try to own as much of Adyen as possible.

Anyone know how that's working out?

eBay doesn't care about the small sellers, never has. They care about the huge sellers who cannot afford to leave and are so entrenched that it would be impossible for them to leave regardless of change in format, payment, etc.

When was the last time you saw a 250,000+ feedback user post on these boards?

I just now saw a thing they sent saying to update my info.   Since I won't be giving them my bank account number and access to it should I end everything I have listed or just don't list anymore? I hardly ever list.. it had been months.

They could already do that with Pay Pal.

There are some that don't want to provide their checking accounts and SSN, but I think most of it has to do with claiming their income and avoiding paying taxes.

How many casual sellers do you think claim their income now, probably not very many and now it's going be a little harder to get around it.

Have a great day.

Okay I found an email from eBay. I have until the end of May to update my info.. give them my bank account. I will be on that chooses not to. I will not sell any longer on eBay come the end of May. I don't have any direct payments hooked to my bank account.. too much can go wrong.. I'm out. I will just sell on Facebooks market place.. by by eBay.

That's the date they give you to sign up, but it doesn't mean they won't switch you over before then.

They could switch you over tomorrow or next week.

Have a great day.

Re: How many casual sellers will not sign up for managed payments and will stop selling

I recently switched to managed payments.  Searched for several low cost checking accounts, including credit unions.  I even called some credit unions, without ever getting a human on the other side during daytime hours.  I unearthed something that I didn't expect to find.  Most of you are aware & heard of the Discover Card.  But did you know the company has a NO FEE checking account?  With 24 hour service!  Not sure if I can put link... so just search for /online-banking/checking/

Good luck & Stay Safe!

Or the ones like me who just don't think it is worth it anymore and don't really need the money (just want to get rid of all these old magazines).

Ebay Managed Payments won't use the bank account PayPal has been happy with since 2001 so I would have to find a new bank to open a new checking account just for Ebay Managed Payments.

Why should I trust Ebay? They can't control the massive misuse of Media Mail in the magazine sellers, they didn't do a good job with Billpoint (still owe me $4.00), they did away with Turbo Lister without providing all the options they promised us.

Re: How many casual sellers will not sign up for managed payments and will stop selling

Now only a casual buyer for some items.

Stop selling over a year ago and a lot happier to know that eBay can't interfere with my business. I had only been able to list 200-350 items because of the GTC and the rolling blackouts to have my items show.

For a 1 1/2 years I have now finally have over 1000 items listed on ebid and getting more items ready.  You have to promote yourself but I am not like a lot of sellers that expect every site to be loaded with traffic.  I promote myself and I have been getting sales.

My business, my policies and I am feeling good now with how I sell items.

Why some of us sellers don't like eBay is that there is no trust. They are not transparent and is suppose to provide a platform to sell. eBay thinks now that they own your items and will control your items, returns - refunds and such.

I am just happier now.
