How can I request more money from a customer with managed payments?

I sometimes get customers asking for a higher quality variation of an item that I don't have listed. How can I request more money for the upgrade through eBay's managed payments?

You list the item. Doing otherwise will come back to bite you.

Ah I thought there may be a way through Managed Payments to request additional money on top of the original order they placed on my listing.

Several issues with this. One, you are not selling them the item they agreed to buy. They could easily file an item not as described claim upon receipt and win. Second, sellers are never allowed to request additional money for an item, whether it be for unexpected shipping costs or calculation errors, or in your case.

Just not a good practice at all. The best thing to do is to create a listing with that variation.

Not satisfied with the answers.  Shipping costs maybe higher and you need to request additional money.
