How I solved my Payout Failed problem

This is a rather long story, but it has a happy ending.

During the first week of December I received the dreaded sign-up-for-Managed-Payments-or else-email.  For the last 2 years I had read on the eBay discussion boards complaints, frustrations, and horror stories from sellers about their experiences with MP.  Now it was my turn.

I clicked on the link in the email and inputted the required information.  I gave my SS# and registered a checking account that had been virtually unused for 10 years.  A short time later, I received an "You're In!" email, and also sold something.  Sure enough, the buyer's payment was not in my PayPal account.  I clicked on the Payment Options among my Selling links, and there was the payment in MP--Pending.  I changed my payment options to weekly payouts on Tuesdays.

Tuesday rolled around and once again I clicked on Payment Options and then on Transactions.  A red disk appeared saying "Payout Failed, We'll Try Again Tomorrow".  And that was it.  No explanation. No link to click to find an explanation.  Just "Payout Failed".  I quickly checked again on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Same result.  Payout attempted; payout failed.

Okay........

Having read more times than I can count the eBay board advice on MP payout failures, I started down the list:

1) The checking account I linked must be with a financial institution MP recognizes.  I was  okay there.  I use a major US bank.

2) The checking account must be set up to accept ACH transfers.  I was okay there.  A couple years ago I accidentally sent money from Paypal into that account.  The ACH worked fine.

3) My eBay seller account type and the checking account type must match.  I was okay there.  Both are personal, since I a very small-time seller who uses my SS# and Sched C to report eBay income.

4) The name on the checking account and my eBay account must match exactly.  Ah... perhaps that was the problem.  Like all our assets, the checking account is in our living trust.  The name on the checks was the trust name, my first name, middle initial, last name, and the word Trustee.  The name on my eBay account was my first and last name.  Was the middle initial the problem?  I added my middle initial to the eBay account and once again checked over the next few days.  Same result.  Payout attempted; payout failed.

By then Christmas was looming and I had no time to deal with my MP mess.  Each business day I checked.  Payout failed.  I sold another item whose payout also began to fail.

On the Tuesday afternoon before Christmas, I finally had a little spare time.  The house was decorated, the cards mailed, the presents were mailed or under the tree, and the festive meals were planned and shopped for.  I had a half hour to investigate the MP mess.

It occurred to me that if I went to information about the Seller Hub, it might lead me to a clue.  What I was led to was landing page stuffed with text telling about the greatness of the Seller Hub and it's wonderful analytics.  There were links to videos to watch.  Arghhhhh.  All I wanted was some kind of bread crumb trail to information about failed MP payouts.

I sat in from of my laptop and pondered.

Where did I  go to get information about repairing my dishwasher?  Where did I go to learn whether nausea is a symptom of Covid-19?  Where did I go to extract information from the websites of the USPS and the DMV?

The answer:  Google search.

So I went to the Google search box and typed in something like "payout failed eBay managed payments".  Among the returned linked was a page (buried deep within the innards of the eBay website) which dealt with MP payout failure problems.  Eureka!  At the bottom of this page was a link in a box saying that my information was incomplete.  I clicked on that link, and sure enough, my SS# was missing.  I typed in the number, and a message appeared that my new information would be reviewed and I'd get an email with the result in 2 business days.

Question:  what happened to the SS# that I inputted weeks ago when I registered with MP?  Answer:  this is eBay.

Apparently, the "review " of my "new information" happened fast.  On Wednesday morning I was greeted by two emails saying both payouts had been sent to my bank.  This morning (Thursday), I looked at the checking account, and money from MP was there.

Thank you, Google!

Re: How I solved my Payout Failed problem

So, eBay enlists a volunteer army to dispense tons of boilerplate directing payout issues to MP customer service, who are impotent to help, over a broken registration system.

That sure is an awfully long story… containing absolutely zero help for others with the same issue
