Hate managed payments

Ebay has dictated a change in my business model that does not work for me, and I am completely unhappy about being forced into managed payments.

Hate managed payments

It's not that most of us can't wait. It's the fact that last month it hit our PayPal account right away. Now some of us had to open a checking account  like I use checks anymore, just so we can wait a few days to get the funds into our control. Then we have to manually transfer it to our PayPal account. All this for the low low price of higher eBay fees.

Yea, it definitely sucks for some of us so far. I had to open a checking account just to accept payments, and then have to wait until I can move it to my PayPal account. Usually around 5 days from payment to having it back in my PayPal. I miss the good old days (last month) where I didn't have to do any extra work to get my money instantly. It may be time to move to etsy.

Etsy has the SAME payment processor as MP.  Etsy uses Adyen.  Etsys system is not that much different than MP.

If I may ask, why do you move your money from your bank account back to PP?

If it is for spending the money you earn back on Ebay, you could likely get a CC with cash back bonuses that would be a better way to go.

I do almost all my purchases throughout the month on my CC w/cash back bonuses.  I save up all those bonuses all year long and then use them during Christmas time.  These bonuses can really add up.  Some cards have better programs.  I really like BOA's red card personally.

Really? I thought PayPal worked over there. On the plus side I have been slowly migrating  my eBay customers to my Facebook page over the last year. I don't have to use ebay near as often as I used too fortunately. Mainly just selling to message requests at this point.

PP does, for the Buyer.  Just like it does here on Ebay.

I think we're getting stuck in bubble thinking here.  First off, a managed payment system means that buyers can use more ways to purchase - many people don't and won't use Paypal - they use mobile payments.  BUYERS - CUSTOMERS. Secondly, you don't have to 'write checks' to use a checking account - I write about 10 checks a year - maybe - and I use one personal checking account for everything, including four different websites who use managed payments (and which earn me a full time living).  That 'instant cash' you got from Paypal was a perk that no one else gets - they basically fronted you that money before the origin payment even cleared.

Etsy abolished free-standing Paypal payments several years ago.  Also, have fun there - their search suks, if you gross (GROSS!) more than 10k you get thrown into a secret squirrel advertising system at the rate of 12% which is based on leveraging their awesome (but completely krap) search and unknown ad placement - I've rarely seen these adverts in Google/Bing search.

ETA: And indeed you can use your CC and get direct cash back if you have that benefit.

I move it to paypal for convenience. I do 90 percent of my buisness through PayPal. Either I move all the PayPal money to a checking account, and get used to writing checks, or move what little I get from eBay back to my paypal. Either way it's just more work. It wouldn't be quite as big of a deal if it wasn't for the fact that eBay is now charging me more to get my paypal payments.

Guess I'm glad i didn't make the move to etsy. Back when eBay hit us with their good (horrible) till canceled **bleep**, I considered etsy as an option. Instead I just started working my Facebook page a little more. Thankfully I get most orders there now. Started adding contact info into packages. Thankfully most of my sales have moved outside of this place. I do get requests here from time to time. I suppose I can deal with them as they come.

I have had a checking account for many years.  In the past decade I've probably written maybe 5 checks.

What I typically do is set my payments up on auto pay and have it go to my CC that has cash back bonuses.  I pay for Netflix, Cell phones, security system, etc. this way.

Things I need to pay that don't work using that method, my online banking program allows for what they call Bill Payer.  In that screen I set up the things I need to pay out.  Then when I need to make a payment to one of them, I just go in, fill in the numbers and the bank will send that payment to my vendor.  I have my car payment set up that way and several other things.

Writing checks are really not something that is the norm anymore.  You just need to learn what your bank offers you online.  It can be just as easy to pay a bill from your bank electronically as it was from PP.  I personally do not find it more work at all.  I think you are assuming things without doing your research to learn that it isn't as complicated as you seem to think it is.

No research needed. Personal experience. My last sale on ebay required me to go to a bank, and open an account so they can send it to me. I already have a buisness debit card with cash back through PayPal so after it clears the bank I can move it to paypal. Not the end of the world. Just more work than before.

I hate it too. I liked having my PayPal account and all of my eBay transactions separate. New system to me is like cominging my funds into my checking account. The other way was so much easier to track my (albeit small) business.

In other words, bend over forwards and grab our ankles so eBay can jam it right in. That's a "bumpy ride" alright.

Agree they put my money on hold now going on a month and I've been on ebay over 21 years! **bleep** ebay dragging their feet on my account wanting to ID me which I sent them everything and still keeps dragging on!

I HAVE 2 STORES SELLING $10,000 ON EACH ONE EVERY MONTH  AND TRIED MP ON ONE . GOT FED-UP AND CLOSED ONE OF THEM.

IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE FOR ME .

1. MP CONTROLS MY MONEY NOW UNLIKE PAYPAL THAT ALLOWED ME TO CONTROL IT.

2. I'M ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND CAN'T HAVE OVER $2,000.00 IN THE BANK. IF I GO OVER THAT AMOUNT BY EVEN ONE PENNEY I LOSE A FULL MONTH OF SS BENEFITS AND MUST REAPPLY TO START GETTING THEM AGAIN . ( THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BECAUSE OF MP ) WITH PAYPAL I COULD CHOOSE THE AMOUNT TO TRANSFER DAILY .

3. UNDER THE OLD SYSTEM THE MONTHLY INVOICE TOOK THE MONEY  FROM MY CREDIT CARD . ON THE CARD I USED I KEPT A ZERO BALANCE PLUS I GOT 3% CASH BACK  , EARNING ABOUT  $60 A MONTH FROM B of A . MP PUT A STOP TO THAT.

4. I STARTED BUSINESS IN 1977 AND MY BOOKS BALANCED EVERY DAY UNTIL MP TOOK OVER . NOW IF I BALANCE THEM AND I GET WITHIN $50 I GIVE UP.

5. MY FICO SCORE IS 812 ,PLUS I PAY $4,000 EACH MONTH IN SELLERS FEE'S , I'VE HAD THIS EBAY ACCOUNT FOR 9 YEARS AND EBAY STILL TREATS ME LIKE I HAVE COLLECTION AGENCY'S TRYING TO GET PAID OR SOMETHING.

LASTLY IS THE JOKE OF RULING IN BUYERS  FAVOR , EBAY TAKES 10 SECONDS TO COME TO THAT BUYERS WIN.

I SELL ESTATE SALE FINDS SO I CAN'T JUST SEND A REPLACEMENT . I POST AS MANY PICTURES  AS POSSIBLE SO THE BUYER CAN SEE ANY DEFECTS . I HAD A BUYER WHO BOUGHT CHROME STRIPS FOR A 64 MUSTANG . OPENED A CASE . I OFFERED TO SEND A RETURN SHIPPING LABEL  AND FULL REFUND WHEN IT GOT HERE . HE GOT ANGRY AND WANTED FULL REFUND AND KEEP THE ITEM AS WELL , FOR HIS TIME . I REFUSED AND EBAY SENT HIM THE REFUND OUT OF MY FUNDS PLUS ALLOWED HIM TO KEEP THE STRIPS .

MY FATHER TAUGHT ME EARLY IN LIFE ...
ONE--" THAT IT'S A PRIVILEGE AND AN HONOR TO PAY YOUR TAXES " ...

TWO-- " TREAT ALL YOUR WORKERS LIKE FAMILY AND NEVER PAY THEM MINIMUM WAGE ,
PAY THEM AT LEAST $5.00 OVER MIN WAGE AND $10.00 MORE IF THEY HAVE A FAMILY " ...

You must be on SSI Disability; there’s no bank balance limit for receiving Social Security. And we don’t care about your FICO score.

Most importantly, this thread is from a year ago; let it die.
