HELP!!! Automatic Paypal payment on an accepted offer

I want to know if it's required that I allow Ebay to automatically collect payment fromPaypal on an accepted offer or can I opt out and pay Paypal manually as I've always done?

HELP!!! Automatic Paypal payment on an accepted offer

There is no way for a buyer to opt out. The only thing you can do is change your payment source before you make an offer if you don't want to use PayPal.

eBay is trying to combat the unpaid item problem on this site. Soon you'll find that auto-pay will happen with auctions, too - not just offers.

Sellers have the ability to turn off the requirement for their accounts, but most won't do it unless they rely on buyers that purchase multiples and want combined shipping.

As @wastingtime101 said, only sellers can turn this option off.  Many don't even know they have these requirements, much less with a default set to yes.  All Buyer IDs are now forced into this scheme in order to make offers, unless the seller turns it off.

Now eBay is working on enrolling Buyer IDs to do this in order to bid.  Again, this will only work for those sellers that retain the buyer blocks set to the YES default.

Since it appears you have sold items on this ID in the past, you can check to see the "gift" ebay presented to you and all sellers.  If you continue to sell with these in place, your buyers will be presented with the same format.

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

Buyer Payment Requirements

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

I realize that this is being presented to buyers as for their convenience or as a "New Smoother Checkout" experience (that you must fill out your payment source in order to proceed),  they left out some details that many buyers were surprised to find out after the fact.

So how does the seller turn this option off? This isn’t right. It’s a security issue down the road. What if somebody else gets a hold of your account they can go in and automatically make purchases without even having to sign in to the PayPal account. I think eBay has gotten way the heck out of hand over the years. I had to call PayPal to turn this Option off and I’m not gonna turn it back on again.

And by the way, I no longer sell on eBay. I only buy things.

@theoldsouthtradingpost

I'm assuming that you made an offer that was accepted and IPR was required. Correct me if I'm wrong...

The only way I've found around it is to contact your seller with the amount you'd pay and see if they send that offer back to you. If so, and you  accept it ... you go through regular Checkout.

I don't know for sure if my workaround still works, but it did a month or so ago.

HELP!!! Automatic Paypal payment on an accepted offer

Previously, I made an offer and yes that’s what happened and I was charged. After that, I turned off my automatic payment feature by calling PayPal. Same thing started up this time and I did buy to the seller with something similar. It’s very frustrating and I think eBay has made a huge mistake and will lose a lot of money, even though they think they’re going to make more money, I’m sure. A lot of people are going to stop spending money there. I know if this continues, I will stop shopping on eBay. Amazon is very competitive and a lot easier to deal with.

"Same thing started up this time and I did buy to the seller with something similar."

@theoldsouthtradingpost... Thank you.

So your first was an offer that you made which was accepted. Got it.

Does your sentence above mean that (second) you had a seller send you an offer which you accepted?

Still trying to decide if both scenarios create an immediate charge. Hmmm...

Unfortunately, what you read was my phone speaking and not me speaking. The first item that this happened with was processed with the automatic payment thing and that’s how I found out about it. This item that I’m referring to I wrote to the seller today and asked them to either send me an offer like you suggested, or to chat back-and-forth until we agree on a price and then they can just make it a buy it now and I’ll go in and buy it. The seller has not responded, but I just sent the messages short while ago. I imagine a lot of other people are objecting to this as well. I no longer sell here, so I’m not subject to these problems because I’m not using my account that way. I stopped selling when they forced us to give them a bank account directly. I think these things make it easier for eBay to make money and are much riskier for the buyers. It opens your PayPal account to hacking.

I also want to mention that I don’t know how to cut and patient make a quote like you did, or even how to do the @ thingie. I’m an old lady and all this stuff is more than I can deal with. Honestly, it’s so much easier to shop at Amazon. None of this stuff exists is very easy and returning items as easy as well. I still use eBay just for old time sake but not if this is going to continue.

Does Amazon now have Auctions or "Make An Offer" type listings?

@monica-sells

 No, but shipping is calculated in the cart and you can buy 15 things without having 15 separate charges to your credit card. You get to pick how you want to pay when you are done shopping which is not a new concept in ecommerce.   Same thing happens if you purchase from my website.  Combined shipping is calculated in the cart, and the items remain for sale until they are paid for.   Don't know why eBay didn't want to go that route with their make offer program, or again simply sanction those pesky non-payers instead of running those off that actually do pay.

EBay was the "industry leader"  in auctions and combined shipping protocols.  Other sites have developed the make offer features and combined shipping (maybe because it increases sales and buyer participation) while eBay wants to make it less user friendly for buyers.  Poor sales and less bidding on eBay may serve to entice sellers to participate more heavily in paid promotional fees. so perhaps eBay figures they will be fine.

I just wanted to let all of you who help me out know if this worked and I just bought the shoes. The seller was very cooperative. Thank all of you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. I’ve never used the community resource before and now I will definitely use it more often. I’ve been on eBay for 25 years and seen it go through an amazing amount of changes many of them for the good but also many of them not so good. Thanks again everyone I appreciate it. 🙂
