Gift Card Redemption on eBay, Limit To How Many Cards I Can Redeem

What the heck? I went to the store today and bought 6 $50 eBay gift cards. When I went to checkout, it is only allowing me to redeem 4 of the 6 gift cards. I am receiving an error message stating that I have redeemed "a lot of gift cards lately". So what? Who cares? Setting up restrictions on gift card use like this is outright immoral and probably illegal!! I have been using eBay for years and it seems every month I find another reason to stop using this awful platform and buy/sell more of my products elsewhere.

Not only this but they say that I must wait a few DAYS to redeem more cards! By this time someone could have already bought the product I wanted. 

Then they beg me for my feedback, I go to tell them the exact issue that I am facing and guess what they say.. Feedback response is limited to 500 characters. Wow! Ask for feedback and set more restrictions. These people have to have some screws loose. Control freaks / superiority complex is my guess. 

If anyone knows how to bypass this bogus restriction please let me know.

There are a few restrictions to keep in mind when using eBay gift cards:

• You can’t use an eBay gift card to buy bullion, coins, paper money, virtual currency, coupons, or other gift cards
• You can use up to 4 gift card and/or promotion codes per transaction. The codes include eBay gift cards, eBay Bucks, and coupons
• Gift cards are linked to your account on the first use. Once you use it, your card cannot be used with another eBay account

The only workaround that comes to mind immediately... maybe you need $100 (+) cards??? What a snafu...

It is a a snafu isn't it?! I would have purchased $100 gift cards but the stores near me do not have them. 

Honestly blows my mind that this is a rule though. They already have my money and I have restrictions in place on how I can use it.. Crazy.

I understand your frustration, but there are many gift card scams. I’m guessing they have this policy in place due to safety and security reasons.

I do not undertsand why you are using gift cards.why not just buy what you want and pay for it later.

it seems like double work using gift cards but I am sure you have a good reason.

ebayers have been taken for millions in gift card scams over the years.it gives me a pit in my stomach when they come to the forums and I cant help them with any advice exept to say that gift cards are for friends  and family

The reason why I am using gift cards is because my local grocery store will give me $10 in gift cards to use in their store for every $100 in gift cards I purchase.

LOL seems so weird when people ask you "why you using gift cards to pay?" Guess what, because you just can, why do they even ask this in the 1st place?

Maybe you don't want to use credit cards or maybe you can't  because you don't own one, which is my case.

My problem is i bought four 25$ gift cards, When i redeemed 2 of the cards on my check out i encountered a problem that apparently i needed to have a PayPal account, no problem i signed with mine, all cool, then i could buy the item. Now when i try to buy another item it wont let me. And i still got 2 more cards to redeem which i havent even reached the threshold. I still got Cash from my last transaction and cant even use it. So how much time do i have to wait until i can use my money again?

Hell yeah your right, now i know, and knowing is half the battle right? Which is why im hurting, im not a regular at buying things on eBay, but believe me, now i know that ebay are the scammers.

Nope but when i bought them i wasnt informed that you can buy something that you CANNOT use. So it seems like some kind of scam from ebay.

The restrictions apply to both the amount and number of GCs now:

1. No more than a total of $1000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and no more than a total of $1500 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month. Further, you may only redeem a maximum of four Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers).

Apple, Amazon, airbnb and more simply take the user account balance refill approach to add GC values instead of restrictions like eBay. Aren't their platforms also subject GC fraud? Likely but apparently it is manageable for those platform providers other than eBay. Imposing restrictions that prevents legal users from optimizing their purchases is clearly unjustifiable but implying how incapable eBay may be.
